Been trying to work out my pre bolus time when eating these, usually bread will in some shape or form be included at dinner time, have been taking insulin about 30 mins before eating bread, on checking on my libre or finger prick it something like 90 mins before I see any rise in readings, it's around about the same when eating potatoes, sometimes my alarm will kick in because I've then dropped to low. is it just me, do people eat and then give 30mins or so then inject, confused.

It depends on the time of day and my BG reading as to how long I need to prebolus. If my BG levels are low (4s and 5s) I might just need 30 mins on a morning instead of 45 mins which is my normal on a morning, for yoghurt and berries. At other times of day I can sometimes inject just 5-10 mins before I eat if my levels are in the 4s or 5s but would need 20 mins if they were between 6 and 8 and more if I was over 8mmols before the meal. I digest carbs from bread and potatoes pretty rapidly, so I rarely have to wrry about levels dropping but the likes of chips or roast potatoes will likely be slower than mash or baked potato, so you have to taking into account how much fat is with the carbs and how easy they are to digest as well as your pre meal BG levels.

It depends on the time of day, breakfast usually needing longer. There’s no rule that says you need to inject X amount of time in advance. You choose the time you need. For my evening meal, I can pretty much inject just before I start eating, and lunch is 10mins or so in advance @Charl

Try injecting just before eating and see what happens.

In range tend to prebolus 15mins before for all mealtimes, if bg were to drop low after eating then would bolus just before eating or even bolus after, although never had to do latter.

Some meals, like those with higher protein & fat content then sometimes a split dose works for some of us, tend to do this for meals like fish n chips for example to prevent bg spike hours after eating.
