So? I'm afraid many GPs know very little about diabetes, and I've experienced that, so I'm still looking for the science behind it.
Dave it so happens I agree with you. I will add that Diabetes terrifies me more than other conditions because it can affect every organ. I wake every morning hoping my eyes are ok, my legs and feet are ok, and my skin which has become very dry for the first time in my life. Another thing that causes my great fear is often we hear when someone has died, it was announced that this person died of “diabetic complications”.

I wonder all day what these “complications” might possibly be!

Guys for some reason my GP practice only ever use the old numbering system, I have no idea why. However, if you look at my signature you will notice my last was in 2019, my next blood tests were due in May or June 2020 but we were in lockdown so I am still waiting to have my bloods done, and we are now into March ‘21.
I am not pleased about this, but I also know I am not alone!
Can you get a private HbA1c test that is a long gap between tests, my results were back on my account within 48hrs of posting sample.

I think it may depend on where you live but our doctor doesn't actually do the blood tests but just issues the form which you take to your chosen location, we are lucky to have a pharmacy which does them rather than having to go to the hospital phlebotomy. You may have something similar.

Your GP is not alone, there are many that give the results as yours do!

Dave I wouldn't know where to start, but there is a very stubborn side to me, Doctors have a duty of care, and like many other people I know in my own circle, we've asked the question what on earth are GPs doing these days because, at least here in South Ayrshire, they are not seeing patients, if you have a concern they only deal with it on the phone, that makes me angry. We have all had to sacrifice during lockdown. So, I shall wait till they ring me and have me in for my bloods.

Hi, no we don't have something similar, what happens here is that the GP asks the practice nurse in my own practice, to do the tests. 2 weeks later he gives you the results. Incidentally, we do not have a diabetic nurse or even a nurse practitioner at my practice.

Gone are the days when a GP had time to ring you in England - unless you've tried to book an appt in which case they will ring and triage you. If all the appts for phone calls that day are gone when you ring, they can get the Out of Hours service to ring you some time the same evening. My husband's had great service from the latter very recently.
