Boating Sequel.

We found that lots of people are willing to step up and help out with mooring, especially if they see that you aren't shaping very well. Our performances varied somewhat. Sometimes Jill would get her approach inch perfect and I would have us tied up in a jiffy. Other times we would get it all a bit messed up and put on a bit of a clown show. We learned that it is best for Jill to steer the boat and for me to do the tying up, when we tried it the other way around it was a bit of a mess. In turn we helped out other people with their mooring.
We would avoid going into locks with hire boats especially narrow boats

Narrow boat = 40 tons plus of steel, my boat = 25 tons of plastic

Mooring was always the fun part, we had the same mooring for 14 years and still got it wrong from time to time, wind and current all play a part, plus how much of the red stuff I had had.
Both my wife and I are qualified helms for motor up to 45 foot

One little aside. I had assumed that the luminous dial on my watch was really just a gimmick that was not really of any practical use. In the past luminous dials on watches used radioactive materials. These presumably worked well but, for obvious reasons, are no longer used.
My Dad used to work at the Admiralty Compass Observatory where they made the compasses, including the luminous dials. They “covered” the spilt paint in layers of concrete. Years later, you could tell the painting rooms by the step as you went in.
It’s a wedding venue now. I think they “sorted out” the paint and concrete. Otherwise it would bring another meaning to a “glowing bride”.
