well im going to keep eating the wheatgerm and the special k until they run out and then i will get new stuff next week when i shop - im not wasting perfectly good food just because you all say i cant eat it.

i can feel myself getting really tearful and depressed about all of this. im trying so f ing hard!!!
My whole life has been turned upside down by this and to be honest im getting fed up with it so is my hubby and even my 19 month old!!
Im so sad that i have to count every stupid carb every stupid sugar, im tired of testing my blood to see how things are effecting me, my fingers are sore and bruised and im just fed up.

I HATE DIABETES!!!!!!!

Onyx, you can eat what you want! People are just trying to give you their best advice. Remember, it isn't sugar you want to watch (although lower in sugar = less likely to get a huge spike soon after eating), it is ALL about the carbs. Basically - people on Insulin carb count because the amount of insulin you need is directly linked to the amount of carbs you consume (other factors come into the equation but this is the basic theory).

You don't really need to count carbs or sugar - you just need to lower the amount of carbs you consume and make sure they are the more 'complex' carbs (wholegrain bread instead of white etc). When do you find out which type of Diabetes you have? There really is no point in worrying over carb counting etc until you know, it's obviously stressing u out.

Please try not to worry. It seems like you have taken ALOT of information in from here and it is a bit overwhelming for you. If I had come on here as soon as I was diagnosed and taken everyone's advice, it would probably have me very confused too.

Have you seen a Diabetes Nurse yet or Dietician?

Hi Onyx

So sorry you are feeling so terrible. I completely understand your feelings of rage about the unfairness of it all. It takes time to come to terms with a condition like Diabetes, to feel able to live with it not under it. It may not feel like that today but hang on in there. It will get easier.

Mike.

after being very upset having being told im eating the wrong bread and cereal etc etc id like to prove your wrong!

wheatgerm is a good slow releasing food! i have brought a book on every food you want to know the gi too!

so as for poeple saying my wheatgerm is no good your wrong!

as for my special k its a medium which means im still good to eat it (you can eat medium gi foods in moderation!!!)

i kniow its prbably childish but i was right _ you were all talking rubbish> now i have had my say im saying bye bye to the forum because it seems you all talk rubbish were food is concerned!

Every individual reacts differently to different foods, its frankly a miracle the human body has evolved to deal with these differences............

Any advice given through books, medical professionals is purely educated guesses to help us out...........

Surely that is obvious.............onyx.......

I follow a low GI diet and have done successfully for over 7 years.
Whilst I agree that foods are listed on the GI index as high low and medium, this does not mean that all are suitable for diabetics. You have to test to see your individual response as the GI diet is not specifically for diabetics.
Some can and some cannot eat the things that are causing concern for you and being a diabetic you have to rely on your meter. That is fact. If you are going to follow a low GI diet blindly and rely on the food's rating you will never know what effect it is having on you personally.

The Glycaemic Index was collated through testing of 'x' amount of people....

I just would like to say we are all trying to help - I appreciate you do not like what we are saying but at the end of the day it is just our opinions and it is for you to do what you think is right for you - maybe when/if you are finally diagnosed the GP may offer you more help.

I have to say to everyone else, I have always totally appreciated your comments and the fact that you take time to support others - please keep it up!

Dear Onyx

I do hope you pop back in to read the posts others have made since you told us you were so upset. No one will judge you for your anger - most of us have been there at one time or another and I know you will appreciate that we are all trying to help you make sense of all the turmoil you now find yourself in.

I suspect the stress you are under is making you feel really bad even without the "right" and "wrong" foods.

Just wanted to say all the luck in the world with your diagnosis and that I hope everything works out for you but most of all I would like to see you posting again at some time in the future- sometimes you really make me smile- best tonic in the world - so here is one for you 🙂 xxx

I think that summarises quite nicely how I feel about this too.

I will be leaving this thread open in case anyone else wishes to add any further, helpful comments.

Thanks,

Andy
