Dont know whether I should be worried or not. Was Dx'd last September so have had a while for my levels to settle down. However, for the past 3 days my vision has been very blurry. On testing recently my fasting level has been 4.1 for the past week and then 2 hours after eating the levels are in the low 5's, whereas before that my fasting levels were around the mid 5's and then 2 hours after eating (depending on what I ate) around mid 7's and I know lots of folk here would be very happy with levels like that - but I am suffering from this blurred vision. I suffered with blurred vision when first dx'd so deliberately didnt have my eye test until 3 months ago to let things settle down, so dont particularly want to have to change glasses again, too expensive!

I've been on 2 x 500 Metformin daily for the past 6 months and wonder whether I should ask the doc to review the meds? Perhaps they're doing too good a job if that's possible.

Karen - can you make an appointment with your optician as there are several causes of blurred vision. He/she can take a look and then give you some advice.

My OH had blurred vision caused by a blockage in one of the eye vessels - he had to take aspirin for a few months and it cleared up. I'm not saying it is that but just giving you an example why you should speak to an optician - particularly if its a blurryness that is there all the time and has appeared suddenly.

Hi Karen. I hope it is nothing to worry about but please don't drive if you have blurry vision. In the meantime I would suggest that you get an urgent appointment with an optician so that they can check if it is a problem with your eyes - if you explain that it has happened very recently, that you very worried and you are diabetic you should be able to get them to see you today. Then if it isn't the eyes see the GP about your meds.....but those levels are excellent and are not within the hypo range. Good luck with getting this sorted out

Hi Karen, I agree with what the others have said above - once other possibilities have been excluded by the optician there is the possibility that the step down in overall levels is a contributory factor and should therefore be temporary. I do think it is worth having your medications reviewed as you may be able to manage excellent levels on fewer pills! (Well done on achieving such terrific levels by the way! 🙂)

Thanks guys, have an appointment with the optician at 4.45 today, will update you tomorrow.

Dont worry AJ, I dont drive anyway - except my OH demented.

All that squinting at late night movies has caught up luv

Seriously hope the Appointment was constructive hun, let us know x

Hi Karen I hope that everything went well with your eye appointment x

Phew, the optician said there were no diabetic changes, but the vision in my left eye has changed, which she puts down to the recent good changes in my BS levels and says that I'm to go back in three months for another eye test if things dont settle down.

I must say I was really impressed because she didnt try to sell me new glasses - in fact she went out of her way to say that she wouldnt recommend me having new glasses at this time because my eyes probably would settle down, and even though its only 3 months since my last free eye test, she said she didnt need to charge because she could honestly say that my vision had changed - thus saving me ?20 squids - so go Specsavers :D

Great news Karen, and good to hear of a professional attitude from your optician. 🙂
