Diagnosed T2 6 days ago, was tired but felt ok
put on metformin straight off, plus sorting out diet/exercise, have had strict control of my carbs since then and exercised for an hour each day. Urine strips negative for last two days, energy levels raising, slight windy/tummy issus as increased to two metformin each day yesterday
But
Blurry vision... which on my newbie post someone said can happen as the blood sugars sort themselves out...
Just wondering how long this can go on for.... am reluctant to drive/go out with my vision like this

Hi Lilies, it can vary from person to person, but for me it took I would say about 3-4 weeks before my eyesight returned to normal, although it did gradually improve during that time. I don't drive, so didn't have that problem. Certainly if you don't feel safe to drive, you shouldn't. I hope it improves quickly, great to hear that things seem to be improving already! 🙂

First and foremost welcomr to the forum. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like as it helps everyone.

It took about a month for my eyes to settle when I was first diagnosed. I was advised not to go for sight test until I had been on the medication for about 3 months.

we are all individuals and it can vary how quickly things settle. the higher the glucose levels were at diagnosis, the longer it is likely to be before your eyes are back to normal.

The side effects of the metformin wear off in time too.

Hi ! welcome to the forum!! I have been diagnosed for approx 7months now, I had terrible eyesight before I was diagnosed, then after about 3weeks on insulin they went right the opposite way, perfect vision!!! (I usually use glasses for driving, and I didn't need them at all...... for a while) then about another 2-3weeks they went back to normal :( But I'm happy that they are now great. It's a scary thing having blurry scratchy eyes, but I'd say mine took all in all about 2 months. But I'm type 1 and on insulin, so I'm not sure about type 2, whether it will go back as quickly I don't know. But I hope it does and you feel better soon!!

Like the others, my eyesight was very blurred at Dx, but has improved dramatically since I found a treatment that works for me and my numbers have got closer to the ideal range. I can't say how long it took though because I'm an awkward cuss and it'd taken around 18 months to get to this point. I did notice my eyesight improved quite quickly when my numbers lowered and got bad again when they rose.

I'm really really struggling with it, i dont feel confident to go out shopping etc its my daughters 17th birthday on friday and yet ive just had to ask hubby to get them birthday cards (fortunately i had pressies already) i'm struggling to do stuff at the computer, read a newspaper but ok watching tv
they are having a birthday party sat night and am dreading it as i feel so down about the vision

The vision will improve, so try not to let it get you down. I know how you feel as at the moment my eye sight is bad, I'm having to get a magnifying glass to read things like cooking instructions. Mine is because I need new glasses, I have a sight test next week.

Lillies,

Firstly, please don't panic. My eyes got so blurry that I had to wear glasses to read the computer screen which was unheard of before.

As your blood glucose levels improve, so will your eyesight and the blurriness is only the body's way of readjusting to the new levels.

It is scary and I wouldn't recommend driving while your eyes are blurry. It's just a temporary blip and I was so reassured by the lovely people on this forum for which I'm eternally grateful.

When I was diagnosed, my hba1c was at 10.5% and is now down to 6.2% 6 months later. I had a recent thorough eye test and my eyes are absolutely fine which is just wonderful. Just remember the lower your blood glucose levels the more things will improve, as your's will, of that I'm sure.

Now go and enjoy that birthday party.

Donna 🙂🙂🙂

really really wierd thing is is that i can read the computer today leaning forward without wearing my specs
