Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Sometimes in the morning my eyes feel like they have sleep in them and my vision is marginally blurred. When I look in the mirror the whites of my eyes are red. It clears later in the morning but I wondered whether it had anything to do with my diabetes. I am type two and take tablets morning and even. Any suggestions?

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long, and are you able to test your blood sugar levels? Blurry vision is often associated with higher than normal levels, which may also make you dehydrated and possibly produce the dryness in your eyes. Do you need to get up in the night to pee often?

Might be worth having a word with your GP to see if it is related to another condition though, to be on the safe side.

Welcome Dave, I would go and see your GP, just to be on the safe side, in case there could be an underlining problem. It may be nothing at all, and It would help put your mind as rest. I hope you get some help soon. Sheena

Hello Dave and welcome to the forum. How long have you been diagnosed? It took a while for my eyes to settle and cope with the new glucose levels.

Have a chat to your doctor to rule out other things and if you have not had one for a while, get your eyes tested at an opticians too. Sight tests are free for those of us who have diabetes.

Thanks everyone for your prompt responses. I have been diagnosed for about four years but the blurred vision just seems to have been a recent thing. My bloods are pretty steady and about 7 in the morning. Maybe I should take a bottle of water in the car with me when I set off on my long journeys. You've hit the button on dehydration because my eyes smart when I've played tennis. I'm due to see the nurse in a couple of weeks for my blood results so I will mention it to her then.
One other thing - I have once experienced very low blood sugar level (3.2 !!) and understand the sensations. I spend quite a bit of time in the car. What would you suggest is a sensible thing to eat or drink if I felt my sugars were dropping?

Dave

Jelly babies or similar sweets will give your blood sugar levels a quick boost, although you may also wish to have something longer lasting in addition, such as a cereal bar. 🙂
