For the first time ever - well in the 4 years since diagnosis - I have been given a print-out of the full results of my latest blood test. Have to wait til next Tuesday before see DSN so wondered if I really need to flag up anything.

I'm sure most is ok but if I start searching on the internet I will be scaring myself silly - especially the couple that have been flagged.

Sorry for long message but hopefully someone can break it down into English for me and I didn't dare leave out anything in case it was important.

In middle of typing this I have been told to go back to surgery urgently as have urine infection and need prescription. What fun!!

Crikey! I've never been given such a comprehensive list, so most of the numbers there are a mystery to me 🙂 However, I do know that 49 mmol/mol is not really 'high' for an HbA1c, given that 48 mmol/mol = 6.5% which I've always been told is the number to aim for. Not sure about the potassium, what could be causing it or how it is dealt with.

Hope the infection clears up quickly - perhaps some of the numbers indicate that? The colesterol looks especially good, from what I remember 🙂

What brilliant results overall! I'm envious!

As I have leukaemia, I have comprehensive blood tests every 3 months and am learning how to interpret them. Your immune system looks in excellent shape as evidenced by the lymphocyte and WBC levels.

High potassium (I'd thought high was over 5.5) is usually kidney function related or the result of certain medications but that's something that you'll no doubt be discussing with your doctor. Masses on the net explaining however but I'm not sure what is allowed to be posted on here as links.
It's usually suggested that drinking more water and reducing red meat can help with high potassium but you'd need to take expert advice to suit you on that.

Like Northerner I'd too understood 48 was the magic number to aim for in diabetic control and your cholesterol seems at a very good level. I'd be sleeping much easier tonight with blood results like that pippa! 😱

Hope you get the urine infection under control.

Well if it says the max they want you is 42, that just means they want you not to be diabetic! I'd give my eye teeth for an A1c of 6.6 'just like that' LOL.

I wouldn't worry about the TSH either - they reckon below 3 is low - but my Endo wants mine to be as near 1 as I can manage, and I can only assume your is 1.8 ?? in which case it's good.

I can never remember about Chol, but aren't your Trigs supposed to be max 1.3? and I didn't think they worried about LDL in the ones, whereas HDL is better higher than 1, which yours is.

The reason it is shown as high is because it is out of the non diabetic range.
So GP has been flagged to test you for diabetes :D No one has told the computer you have diabetes :D

Thank you all for your replies. Pumper Sue - even funnier is that each of the 3 pages is headed "Full diabetic check"

All the ones I understand look pretty darned peachy P&B 🙂

The potassium is only *just* outside the reference range. I've had a couple of those myself. High potassium can be a marker for kidneys (I think) but your levels rise and fall naturally depending, in part, on what you have eaten. My last was 'slightly up, but nothing to worry about'. Once before they asked me back in for a re-check which was fine. Serum albumin might be kidneys too, so you *might* want to ask about that at some point in the future... but I doubt they are all that worried about it as it is so close to the reference.

From my understanding your cholesterol looks in really good shape. 0.5 trigs is great I think, LDL is below 2 where they like it and your HDL is *massive* proportion-wise, giving you a great ratio. I'd be more than happy.

6.5% A1c is great too!

Congratulations 🙂
