3 weeks since dx,on 2 doses of 1 metformin a day been lowish carbing with some seeded bread and oatcakes, some shape zero and 85% choc odd treat, no pasta, spuds, rice or cereals...no cheating with another naughty foods

BG levels all over place, 8-9 on waking, around 7 ish rising to 10 ish levels after food, odd blip where too much bread going to a 12 or 13, dropping to a 6. Something with exercise but that doesn't last long...

So can't see improvement in BG levels and I've lost no weight :(
Oh and I've built up my exercise to this week doing at least 1.5 hours v brisk walking a day, yesterday I id 1 hour circuits and half hour brisk walk, today 1 hours cycle and half hour brisk walk.....
Just flipping fed up to the back teeth with it all and am sick of eating meat and veg
Rant over ......... But just want to cry

Don't loose heart Lilly it took me about 3-4 weeks before I saw any difference with my Blood Sugars 🙂

lilly it will take a bit of time ...the best advice i was given was to take it all in moderation ...stick in there when is you next HbA1c?

Oh Lillies

your at the hard stage, the pain barrier as i felt after 2 to 3 weeks after dx, really wanted to splurge out and forget about diabetes, infact i kept thinking they might have for the dx wrong,

always felt hungry, food was boring, measuring BS was frustrating,

but believe it or not it gets better, my weight is coming off very slowly, 1lb a week, so i have upped the excerise to see if that helps
i dont feel hungry as much now, i find protien with food helps, i eat a salad almost every day, just change things around a bit,
i do have a treat once a week...maybe a small bar of bournville chocolate,
i really think you have hit the barrier, but if i can get through it you will too,

Hi Lilies.

You may not have lost weight because you're toning up muscles which will add a bit of weight while the fat is burnt off.

You may need to lower your calories a bit more at some point to see it drop but don't do anything drastic. It will happen. If your calories expended is greater than calorie intake, then you will be burning fat, but you may not notice it in weight terms for a while until your muscles are in a position to cope with all the extra exercise.🙂

Hi Lillies,

Don't lose heart, you're in the very early stages and it will take time to see a change but believe me, you will see them. It took a while for the Metformin to kick in and, together with cutting down on carbs, the levels will come down. I have just been reduced down from 1000mg to 500mg after just 6 months and my Hba1c has reduced from 10.5% to 6.2%. I haven't been exercising nearly as much as you ......so you're bound to see good results. You're doing really well and keep coming on here for a rant any time you feel like it, we're all here to support each other.

Thanks for the support, feeling a bit happier today... Had another bike ride as I'm determined to get these levels down!!!
Next hb1ac is due in about 6 weeks, first one was 11.9 which is not good :(

hi there, keep on truckin! you will get there, and at least you are trying your very best to control this pesky disease, good for you!
another symptom of a low carb diet can be a flu-ey like feeling, generally low, but within a few weeks you will find more energy, better mind set and less hunger. just be careful not to reduce everything cos the body still needs fuel. let us know your results. good luck.

As you are so newly diagnosed, those numbers look not too bad. It takes a while for them to come withing range. You are doing all of the right things, so don't beat yourself up.

If you fancy the odd spud or a little pasta once in a while, it wont hurt and you wont feel depried. You're doing well, so please don't beat youself up over it.
