Hi everyone x
I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with type 2 diabetes. My hb1c was 118 Blood sugars 17.
Im on 4 metformin a day ,however I cannot get my blood sugars below 10.1. Once they were 7.7 . But only once. I'm following a low carb (130g or less a day) low or no sugar programme Where am I going wrong TIA xx

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

People have different ideas of what low carb is. To me 20g a day is low carb. :D It's all trial and error, keep testing, you'll soon have it down pat I'm sure.

Wow ,I couldn't manage on 20 carbs ,I'm impressed ! I hope so x thankyou for your reply

I guess I mean low carb to what I used to eat😉
I'm not doing it now! In fact I hardly ever did it at all, but I did try. 🙂 I was amazed when I joined here and saw what others thought was 'low carb' and it's a relief really.

Hello @A b , Welcome to the forum.
They are brilliant results for someone so recently diagnosed. I would try lowering your carbohydrate intake a little more imo it’s easier to do this gradually and fill up with things like veg , protein and good fats.

Providing you don’t mind
If you give us a typical days meals and snacks we can provide suggestions in changes.

Hi A b, I try to keep below 100 g/day and am pretty sure that 130g/day would put my post meal readings into double figures. So I'm with Ljc, see if you can lower your carb intake to see if that helps.

Well done on your progress so far @A b

Hopefully a few more slight adjustments will bring your BGs more into range.

How much have you experimented with carbohydrate type as well as quantity? I know from other T2s over the years that some simply can’t cope with some types (and not necessarily obviously sweet ones) which are fine for others.

If you give us an idea of what you are actually eating it isn't for us to criticise your diet - it's so that we can look for places where it would probably be easiest to reduce those carbs because sometimes you can reduce em by just preparing it a different way rather than us saying you have to stop eating whatever it happens to be.

If a diet doesn't satisfy a person - it's doomed to failure and we aren't here to see anyone suffer.

Your food choices might be the problem - I can eat 30 gm of carb with my dinner, but it has to be from vegetables. I recently experimented by eating 30 gm of carbs from a seeded bread roll, and saw over 10 on the meter instead of close to 7.
However - you could need to lower your general intake of carbs.
I dropped my Hba1c from 91 to 47 eating 50 gm of carbs a day - anything more pushed my blood glucose levels up, and stopped weight loss - it was the same amount as my CCLL when doing Atkins, so I was not at all surprised that it was what I needed. I dropped from 50 to 40 to try to keep losing weight, but now I am only losing volume, though I am regaining my strength.

Thankyou so much everyone x
I understand what u mean about lowering to 100g of carbs and also types of carbs. Every day I have either 2 x slices of low carb seeded or a seeded flatbread Both are within my allowance but maybe I should leave bread off completely
Every morning I have asda high protein granola 20g of carbs with alpro milk. I have to have cereal or I can't keep the metformin in (sorry for the info)
For lunch I have a ham salad sandwich
Dinner varies last night home made minestrone, pasta counted on allowance. Cooked breakfast for dinner. Garlic and chilli chicken with green beans. I had a takeaway kebab and salad (no pitta) roast dinner (no potatoes or Yorkshire)
For pudding a muller light or sugar free jelly.
snacks a packet of puft crisps or a packet of pork scratchings. Melon
Hope everyone has a lovely day ,and thankyou for the replies x
