So ive been back to the drs this afternoon. Not feeling well, light headed dizzy and very blurred vision. Tested blood sugar and it was 14.5! Said this is high, booked me in for a repeat HBA1c test on Monday as i have a chromosome that can cause MODY. Currently told i have Type 2! Ive been drinking plenty of water but still dont feel "right" I wish drs would take me seriously. Theres Type 1 all throughout my mums side of the family.

Did they also test for ketones @Lil3823 ? Do you have a glucose meter at home to keep an eye on your blood sugar?

No they didnt. I dont have a glucose monitor but thinking about purchasing one depending on next weeks results. As i beleive i should be referred to the diabetes clinic if HBA1c has risen.

It would be a good idea to get one @Lil3823 as you’ll then have a much better idea of what’s going on. Ask here before you buy one as there are a couple recommended here that are a reasonable price and quality.

In early days then testing each morning so a fasting reading, just before eating each meal and 2 hours after your meal. Looking for levels 4-7 mmol/l fasting and before eating and no more than 2-3mmol/l after 2 hours, if more than that then your meal is too carb heavy. Once levels come down the the 2 hour post meal aim is no more than 8-8.5mmol/l.
Of course it is also a good idea to test when you feel particularly unwell and danger levels would be in the mid to high teens.
Keeping a food diary along side your readings can be helpful both to use and your GP/diabetic nurse.
How high your reading is depends on when you took it in relation to when you ate.

Sorry to hear you are still feeling poorly @Lil3823

If you start having abdominal pain, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting alongside your higher BG levels you should go to A&E

If you are worried about ketones, you could pick up a pot of urine dip-strips from a pharmacy for approx £5
