Interesting, sorry have no useful thoughts!!

Was wondering what the image was from that logs the time injection etc etc, looks grand sir.

Hope it all settles down soon, and some form of normality happens soon!

Cheers

NRB,

I would suggest in my experience on MDI that if I were eating a pasta meal I would have split my dose of bolus insulin 75/25% for carb count (25% an hour after eating). I would not have injected as early before my meal as you did, I would certainly have been hypo before eating. I would have injected 15 - 20 mins max before....I know we are all different. The rest of your numbers look superb for MDI, something I can now achieve on my pump but rarely that good on MDI.

What I find interesting NRB, is that BG fell when you would have expected it to be rising (injecting perhaps a little too early?) but then seems to rise fairly steadily up and away past your starting point.

Do you always inject so long before eating? (I think this may be where I am going wrong) - or does that relate to what you're eating? I certainly agree with the 'add more insulin' if it's over a certain amount - it works for me

For my breakfast on Monday through Friday I inject then eat immediately, but its only a small 20gCHO yoghurt, that can stop the Dawn Phenomenon but not spike the BG, my evening meal is 15 minutes before............my problems were always between lunch and evening meal, where I would spike up at 15-17 mark, so increasing the time gave me the best results, sometimes not eve above 7.5...........

I would generally maintain this time before injecting regardless of the contents of the meal, but no doubt the meal would effect the time it took to absorb.....

I am confident I did inject much too early, and that the pasta was still digesting long after it had left my system.............I did come back down to 11 for dinner..........

think this has been one of the clearest bits of evidence in favour of early injection, (which I am resisting!)

What do you do between injecting and eating?? I get carried away and then lose track of what I am supposed to be doing (until I get a hypo??) the best thing that happened to me was being 'allowed' to inject just before eating, I really struggle with timing. And what about going out? There is no spontaneity with d is there?!

What do you mean when you ask what I do between injecting and eating? Am I active/sedentary etc.......

I am in an office, so my day is the same..........and not very active

You just need to experiment with timing, its the only way to find out, test all the time, every hour, every half hour if you want...........

If I was eating out I would inject the usual 15 minutes, but that's OK for me at dinner anyway, it only seems to be lunch that I need different timings......

How do you mean you carried away, ten have a hypo?

Whilst not wanting to speak for heasandford, I suspect what she means is how do you manage to inject early and then not lose track and get distracted, possibly suddenly finding that you are going hypo because you injected, but didn't eat straightaway, so you forgot. It's happened to me a few times, especially at breakfast time, although I don't go hypo even if I get distracted for an hour (probably because of DP)

Another case for a phone alarm perhaps?

I suppose I am just fortunate enough to be in a good routine................

I always eat at the same time during work, so I just test and inject at the same time too........

Must admit I would be under the floor boards if I injected an hour before I ate 😱
Have you actually checked your blood sugar again just before you eat? This would give a clear indication of bolus or basal being out. If not enough basal then your blood sugar would not have shifted or even gone up even after the bolus.
Pasta is also well known for affecting blood sugars for at least 8 hours in some people.
Fatty meals also require more insulin for the majority of type 1 diabetics as does high protein content meals.
I know a lot of type 1's on MDI who find using a non analogue insulin to cover the high fat/protien meals works a lot better due to the profile of it.

yes, more or less! If I injected allowing say 20 minutes, but it would only take 10 minutes to prepare what I'm eating, then 10 minutes to..what? I go on here or similar, then find it's 30 minutes later!

so yes, I should do this all the time!

I am really not good at routine - a prerequisite for people with diabetes? And sadly my family are as bad, so there's no incentive either. I promise I'll try harder!

I am sure you do a great job already..........

My routine is good during the week, but the weekend it goes t*s up..........

and I am sure this might not last forever.......
