Does anyone know how to get a free blood pressure monitor ?

Morning -
I didn't know you could get one for free! - maybe from your GP? I bought mine from boots for about ?30 but it works really well (have had it for about 2 years)
Good luck

Sometimes a GP will offer you a monitor for a few days if you suffer from 'white coat syndrome' and have abnormally high levels in the surgery, but they are quite cheap to buy. I have a Omron M2 Basic Blood Pressure Monitor which was less than ?20 and is tested to the same level as the ones GPs use, so reliable. It's useful to have your own as you can see what happens at different times of the day, plus of course any improvements or if you might need to go to the doctor about it.

p.s I doubt companies would give them away as there are no ongoing profits for them, as with blood glucose meters

Thanks for the advice, think I will invest in one as sounds worth it as I do suffer from white coat syndrome when at the doctors.

That's what led me to buy one! I actually persuaded the GP to reduce my BP meds after showing her the readings - bear in mind that if the GP thinks your levels are much higher than they actually are away from the surgery, too much BP medication could put you at risk of going too low!

As far as I know you can't get free ones. I bought mine from Boots and have had it for years. I also suffer with White Coat Syndrome. I occasionally take my meter into the surgery and they test it for me along with one of theirs to see if it records correctly. Its well worth getting one. Whenever I have an appointment I take my own readings with me.

I suffer from white coat syndrome as well !!! It's such a pain isn't it. I also take my own readings with me. I have tried practicing breathing techniques when I get my BP taken at the hospital and its helped A LITTLE BIT - if you discover any helpful strategies please do,let me know !

I would be OK if I went straight in to my GP to have my BP done its the waiting in the surgery that gets me.

I also bought one from Boots I take it in the morning and evening, I have to watch my heart rate as it is quite low anyway around 50 and does drop to 48 :(

Down here Asda are selling them for ?15 at the moment. I have one and it works fine. It's an Omron the same as the doctor's but a smaller model.:D

Thanks for this , I will call in at Asda at the weekend 🙂

I also get white coat syndrome so bought my own Omron in Boots. Last time doctor measured my pressure it was a bit high so he said "just try and relax and I'll take it again in a few minutes".

Second reading was about 20% higher 😱

Hehe! That is just what happens to me 😱 Also, sometimes she will resort to the manual one and that is just as bad. They're not inaccurate, it's just the stress!
