no major issues- I did request 2 glucogel jab kits as we had always had 2- ours are near renewal date and H would often leave it at his mates by mistake {call me greedy or organised]- docs said no - I said if it were his child im sure he would have 2- so team kindly faxed this request to them as we go on hols soon and they like us to have 2 of everything and hey ho sorted

I was given urine strips when I was first diagnosed as they were confused which Type I was and were worried that I might suddenly go into DKA.

I did look at trying to get some more because they are useful for seeing if you have been given sugar-free when ordering soft drinks in a bar. But these days I more often order a coffee.
You can actually buy the urine strips over the counter and they are quite cheap.

Actually, I think you are confusing ketostix with glucostix - the ketostix won't tell you whether your drink has sugar in it but the glucostix will. I believe they are around ?5 for 50.

We have managed to get ketone strips for the Optium Xceed from our GP, but he has stressed that they are very expensive (?28 for 10 I believe??) so to only use sparingly. Apart from just after diagnosis, we have only used them once for a 24 hour period, and once a friend came and asked to have a box of ours when her son was vomiting violently (and ended up being taken into hospital) so I just keep a note of the expiry date and order more when the date is next month. So far no issues with that and it's on his repeat prescription so I can order them as and when needed.

With the glucogon hypo kit that wasn't on the repeat, but when putting in a general repeat I added it in the comments box saying I needed one to replace one nearing expiry and it was with the rest of his stuff when I collected it a couple of days later.

Sorry I should have been clearer - they were Ketone and Gluco stix 🙂

?19 actually to the NHS

Northener, I was confusing ketostix with Glucostix... nontheless you can buy in the chemist.

I get them no problum started with them when I got the pump done lots of test with them this last 2 week with my BGs being up like they have and no Ketones thank God🙂

I started with urine strips, few time there was high ketone on them so I took C in hospital but in there they used blood ketone strip and it was less bad as its more accurate so I asked DSN for blood strips to save us going in hospital and they were happy to prescribe them for us 🙂

It's good to hear that the majority of people have got the blood ketone strips without any bother 🙂

Nope. My gp begrudgingly prescribed them in my 2nd pregnancy but not on repeat and won't prescribe normally.
