To pierce or not to pierce that is the question.
I have lost the feeling in my toes and top of my foot due to nerve damage during back surgery. Hence I am prone to "bump" into things without really noticing - unless it is the door frame when foot and leg stop and the rest of me keeps going!! When doing my nightly check I have found a huge blood blister over the top of my big toe. Over an inch across and about 3/8 inch back to from. I can vaguely remember a stumble over the back door metal frame but thought nothing of it at the time. Advice from anyone before I bother the surgery please. Skin not broken anywhere and no bruising showing. Pressure on the area causes no pain - but then it probably wouldn't. The minimal movement I have in my toes seems to be the same so not broken!

I always think that the skin, being a barrier to protect the body from germs, is best left unbroken. But in something as important as your feet, I'd definitely bother the surgery.

I agree with Robin. I don't like the word "huge". Get thee gone to see at least the nurse. And do not, whatever you do prick it. You'll get the same response from everyone, so don't bother hanging around waiting to read them.

Definately do not burst! Get yourself to GP to have it checked out. I had a blood blister on the bottom of my foot last year and was told not to burst it, let it heal itself. As soon as you break the sking its open to infections. Get it checked out.

As you have no feeling in your feet, though it's due to surgery it's my opinion you should be under the NHS podiatry team. If you are contact them now, if not see if you can self refer, in some areas you can do this. As has already been said please don't prick the blister yourself.

Agree, and another do not prick.

Another vote for getting it looked at, you can never be too careful 🙂 Good luck and I hope it heals quickly 🙂

Hope you have managed to get a professional to look at it. I would not consider that "bothering". Hope it gets better soon.

When I had a golf ball size blister on my foot that had burst as well, the nurse at the docs used stero strips to put the top of the blister back into place as far as possible to protect the skin under it.

When I mentioned it to the podiatrist, I was told to always phone them up for advice and if needed to get and appointment with them asap to get it checked over in case anything else was wrong or if it needed more attention.
