Does anyone else on metformin or gliclazide get this? For the past few days now I've had a really badly bloated and painful belly in the late afternoon. I know this can be a side effect of the tablets.
Anyone else suffer and what do you do to help it?
On the plus side, just had another bg of 7.2!

I'm afraid I can't say anything about the bloating Stitch - but woohoo for the 7.2!!!

I've heard of Metformin doing that, although I only tend to get that if I take it with Lansoprazole! Might be worth trying some Windeez (or similar) to see if it is a gas build up.

If it the Metformin potentially it's something that passes (the worth of metformin side effects usually go after a month).

I suffered bad nausea when I started on metformin back in September that passed after a couple of weeks. I've even been avoiding fizzy drinks for the past couple days too.

What about trying Met SR? a bit kinder to the tum, so they say!

I haven't had any side effects from the gliclazide but Christ the metformin does not go down well. I had to go on the modified release version (which are huge) and they still make me feel nauseous and bloated. I was initially on 2g but ive had to cut it down to 1g because I couldn't tolerate it. They put my gliclazide up to 120mg (160mg next week) because I can't take the metformin!

Ask your GP about the modified release version as many people have found it miles better!

Thanks Rosie I'll ask when I go next week.

I was on metformin and had all kinds of gastric problems, I seemed to spend more time in the loo than out of it. Have a chat to your doctor and see if he/she can give you anything to help. I was given codeine phosphate and loperimide, but I know these don't suit everyone. Or go have a chat to the pharmacist. Some folks find slow release metformin works better for them, but you'd need to see the doctor about it,

When I was in hospital getting my foot sorted out, I also had my diabetes medication sorted out and I am no longer on metformin, I have insulin instead and my gastric problems are much improved.
