Im having a good start to the New Year🙄 Big toe is now infected - red, bleeding and yucky stuff. Off to the GP soon because I'm paranoid about anything happening to my feet.

Hope the doc can sort it out for you Amanda 🙂 Any idea how it happened?

I stubbed it yesterday morning and it started getting red soon afterwards. I think it aggravated an In growing toe nail. I'm assuming that the GP will me give me antibiotics which I had for the toe three years ago

Thanks Rivki. It does hurt but ive now got antibiotics which should kick in within 48 hours. Got to go back if it hasn't healed by Monday. Good news was that she she checked my blood pressure and was very happy with it - it had been raised following the trauma of leaving my job

Glad you went and got it sorted as soon as it played up Amanda, a friend at chuch who is type one is having lots of problems from a toe injury so you did the right thing. Hope the antibiotics soon sort it out - oh and good news on the BP - that's one thing less to worry about! Lets hope the new year continues in a better way for you and the toe thing is just a blip!

Thanks Flutterby. I'm pleased to say that the antibiotics are working🙂 I hope that your friend gets her toe sorted out ok xx

Amanda,

Pleased you infection is on the mend, nothing worse my son has a bad little toe at the minute very black and angry looking, we have been putting foot cream on it to help the healing process.

Thanks Steff. I hope that your son's toe gets better very soon

It's a chap who has the problem and I don't want to depress anyone but it's causing a bit of bother, he's a farmer too - always on about the pigs farrowing down lol, he needs to get well to look after them! Glad the antibiotics are doing their job.

Urrgghh, don't like the sounds of that much Flutterby.

I have a problem big toe too, well it isn't a prob, it's just half numb. Exactly half of it. Happened about 15 months after I dropped the grill pan as I was drying up two and a half years ago - July 2010, was holding it vertical with the handle uppermost at the time and it landed long edge first on the nail bed. Rendered me speechless for about 15 minutes, so you'll be able to judge how painful that must have been.

Anyway hurt like hell for about a week and subsequently only if I prodded it, for a while, then stopped hurting. Never had a black nail or anything, although there is a ridge across the whole width of the nail that hasn't grown out yet.

When it went half dead (the RHS of my left foot) and only slightly down the side of the toe I enquired about it and they all say - Oh it's diabetic neuropathy. Can't do anything. It's only half numb though - can't feel it when they tickle me toes with the gadget, but if I touch it with a finger I can, or a blunt pencil or anything really, just can't discern what it is that's touching - so if the thing touching it was pointed like the end of a skewer for instance, I wouldn't know that and might think it was something blunt eg the rubber end of a pencil with a rubber. But I should know if it was touched at least and inspect it.

I don't personally know anyone with neuropathy in their tootsies, so does it sound like neuropathy? To be that isolated, that 'woolly' and not cause any pain or discomfort?

Completely pink and healthy looking, just as I say, cut 9 toe nails once a fortnight in summer, 3 weekly in winter, and that one - months apart between trims.

Just before Christmas, the left side of my right big toe went half-numb. Just like that, no injury involved. Like TW, not a complete loss of feeling. I haven't seen a doctor for months, but will ask about it next week. I expect to be told it's neuropathy, but I will mention the fact that osteoarthritis is setting up home in that toe (identical ache to my left big toe, which has been arthritic for 10 years) and I've developed a cyst under the skin on the bottom of my right heel (no pain, but I can feel it shifting around when I walk). Maybe one of those things has trapped a nerve? OK, maybe it is a forlorn hope!

Glad to hear your toe is on the mend AJ! 🙂

Sorry to hear about everyone else's toe woes though! 😱 I'm terrible about checking my feet, must get more disciplined... 😱

Oh I still am, if it hurts I look, if not assume everything's OK ..... My bad .....

I'm paranoid about my feet and am always checking them. I've been told if you have hair on your toes then there's no need to worry about neuropathy as hair needs a good blood supply. I'm no hobbit 🙂D) but I do still have hairs there. My left big toe throbs a bit when I'm hyper, but other than that... so far, so good. Which is a miracle given my history. I hope all the toes are better soon.

Hello Amanda

I'm glad your poorly toe is better now, the antibiotics worked well. It sounded very painful😱 I am always saying to my D to put slippers on or a pair of socks, not just for warmth, but for protection.

Take care X

Well oddly enough had my MOT to day and guess what? There's life in the old toe yet, felt the monafilament fine!

Thanks everyone. Good news about the toe Trophywench🙂
