I posted a similar post a few weeks ago. My bg's keep dropping. I have dropped by 10% but still going low. I have changed from hrt tablets to gel on arms.PLEASE can anyone help me sort this out.

Hello @spiritfree. It might be better if you could give a little more info, for example what insulins are you on? Do you carb count? Do you know what a basal test is?

As we have told you in numerous other posts drop the insulin even further. There is no law that you only have to drop your insulin by 10%

Reduce it until you achieve the numbers you need. 🙂

Agree with @Pumper_Sue , that’s what our DSN says, just keep adjusting your dose until you get the numbers you want. You need what you need, there are no rules, just do whatever works!

It needs to be an ongoing process. Adjust reassess and adjust again if necessary.
My basal insulin doses need almost constant tweaking. It is rare that I go a couple of weeks without needing adjustment. I am pretty sure the Covid vaccine changed my basal needs quite dramatically and I had to increase to almost double in the space of a couple of months.... that is 100% increase in a series of smaller increments, and then 3 months later I hypoed 7 times in one day and had to start reducing them again, but so far I haven't got back to pre vaccine doses.

You need however much or little insulin you need and getting that basal dose right is absolutely key to everything else making sense, so don't be frightened to reduce it some more and perhaps ask about a DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) course or whatever your local equivalent is as they will teach you when and how to adjust your basal insulin with confidence . It is a fantastic course and you will learn so much more than just carb counting.

Am I right in thinking you are on a pump @spiritfree? If so then make use of your temp basals by reducing the basals seeing the result then adjusting the basal accordingly to fit your new profile. It wont happen overnight but then Rome wasn't built in a day 🙂

Sorry to hear your levels are still dropping low @spiritfree

Hopefully a few more rounds of cautious adjustments will help.

What sort if low levels are you seeing?

We dropped my daughter’s basal by 20% across the board and boluses by about 10% and even now are still sometimes dealing with hypos. Just keep dropping it until you stabilise. It can help you to understand if you know why your needs have changed but ultimately you need to meet the changed needs whether you understand the why or not.
