Last HbA1c was 5.4. I have been attempting to get more readings in the 4's as I assume that it is good to be as close to 4 as possible before meals? Is that right? (I use D&E). However, when my BG is in the 4's I feel a bit light headed and not as well as when it is in the 5's. Should I continue to strive for levels in the 4's or should I just be content with 5's as I feel better then? Does anyone have experience or a view on this?

5s are fine..........non diabetics sit at 5...

Remember HbA1c is long term BG, so different from the finger prick....

I think you don't need to try harder to get lower numbers, just keep up what you are doing and it's possible they may just come. I believe that people's HbA1c can vary, with some at the lower and some at the higher end of the range. I have known members here in the past with an HbA1c in the mid to upper 4s, but others who are more naturally in the early to mid 5s when they have successfully managed to bring their levels under good control. If you are feeling on the low side with readings in the 4s then it may be lower than your body is naturally comfortable with - remember that non-diabetics can feel low also, I have a friend who does regularly.

You have done terrifically well and may find it frustrating or difficult to keep driving your levels down 🙂
