Breakfast for me is a bit dull I'm afraid. Its generally bite sized shredded wheat with skimmed milk or if I remember the evening before some oats soaked over night in skimmed milk and berries and nuts

Having said its dull i quite enjoy these menus

If I can ask, have you self tested, and know what affect this has on your BG. This made mine go from 6.1 to 10.6 and 11.7 (tried it two mornings).

About breakfast, I would suggest the German style, its all about cold meats, cheeses, olives, and very small little dark toasts..

No I haven't self-tested. Are you referring to the shreddied wheat or the oats?

You may find these both give you a big spike. Porridge is not good for my BG.

We are creatures of habit.

During the week I stick to 20g carbs with my homemade cereal based on Quinoa flakes and coconut along with seeds and nuts.

At the weekends
Sat - boiled eggs with two slices of toast from homemade bread. A bit higher than other days, but ...
Sun - Ciabatta and yummy jam

Like others I pre-Bolus by about 20 min for all of these, and just make sure I am up and about and more active on the higher carb meals.

sorry to be thick but what does bolus mean?
Don’t worry about asking questions. I knew absolutely nothing at diagnosis.

The bolus is the quick acting insulin that is used to balance with the carbs eaten in a meal.
The other insulin we tend to mention is the basal which is a long acting insulin which deals with glucose dribbled out by the liver to keep us ticking over whether we eat or not.

Literally ‘a lump’ often rounded, rather like a ball. The lump of chewed food that you swallow is called a ‘bolus’.

But in forum terms it almost always refers to a dose of fast acting insulin to cover a meal, where you have basal:bolus or MDI (multiple daily injection) insulin treatment, with a ‘background’ slow acting dose and then lumps of fast acting insulin for meals 🙂

I’m always so hungry at breakfast - I have around 60g of oats with 15g raisins, and semi skimmed milk. Anything less and I’m starving by around 11am. I try to bolus 20-30mins or so before hand but I’m cautious as sometimes my BG will drop a lot quicker - though sometimes it won’t start dropping for ages... I saw someone had the same issue - it’s such a weird one. During lockdown I’ve started walking about 4-5 miles pre breakfast/insulin as I find it the best time - my blood sugar doesn’t shift at all really which I find really interesting, as any other time of day it would drop pretty quickly and I’d need extra carbs. So it’s nice to feel I can walk and walk and feel safe. I’ve combined this with a wee bit of yoga after breakfast and although I spike, it’s brief and comes back to normal quickly, and my BGs are nice and stable....for the morning at least! Dreading a change in routine as for the first time in ages feel like I’ve got things sussed out for once!! Really interesting seeing what you all eat for breakfast and how it affects your BGs.
