I ordered a box of marzipan fruits for Diabetes UK for my wife who is Type 2. Fortunately when I was wrapping them I noticed they were not mean for diabetics!!!!

Beware!!!

You raise some interesting points Peter. People with diabetes don't have to eat specific 'for diabetics' items, the general advice is to have the real thing, rather than something where the sugar has been replaced with an artificial sweetener since 'diabetic' items tend to still contain carbohydrates plus they can cause gastric upset. An occasional treat or indulgence is fine, as long as it is in moderation and preferably eaten as part of a main meal when the impact on blood glucose levels will be reduced. It's also very much down to individual tolerances, and it may be that some people are able to enjoy a treat if they also do some exercise.

So, whilst it may appear a poor choice, one or two marzipan fruits might be fine as long as it is kept for a special treat and in moderation.

Also, Diabetes UK do not only try to raise money through their sales by catering for people with diabetes, but also for their friends and family who may not have any problems with the items. 🙂

Beware too of anything that is marketed for diabetics as it could result in some very unfortunate plumbing problems. Nuff said?

Oh! the dreaded polyol trots!!! 😱

Good for a clear out though 😳

With due respect as Marzipan is very high sugar it's not good for anyone except for occasional treats or hypo treatment.

I used to love marzipan - still do, of course, but can no longer buy and eat it by the block like I used to 😱
