Now I have recovered from my bacterial illness and subsequent diverticulitis, I am ready to start taking Metformin. I have been prescribed one 500mg slow release tablet per day. I have read from members it is best to take it in the middle of a meal, but is it best to take it with breakfast or the evening meal? I am expecting to make even more frequent trips to the loo, and have a supply of pads, in case of accidents!!! Thanks

Glad to hear you have recovered.
I was advised by my now long retired Diabetic Nurse with the biggest meal of the day . So I take it in the evening.

My GP advised take it with an evening meal. I take it immediately after I finish eating

It's been 5 days since I started the Metformin and I'm delighted to say I have had no side effects - yet! Needless to say I'm very pleased and now looking forward to my solitary turkey without the trimmings or any of the sweet treats! Pudding will be a clementine!

Why not make yourself a ground almond 'mug cake', chop up the clementine, and make a festive trifle?
You could have some stir fry with the turkey, and roast some swede under the bird, boil a slice of it and mash it with cream, whizz up some to thicken the gravy.
My Christmas dinner will be low carb, but it will be by no means Spartan.

That’s great news @Felinia

Hope it continues, and you see some positive effects (and maybe increased dietary flexibility too?)

I’d take it whenever works best for you. For some reason I get side effects if I take it with breakfast but not if I take it with dinner
