Question is in the title really.

What's the best multivitamin for diabetics? I feel like I should probably use something to boost my immunity as my immune system levels are quite low

Thank you

If you feel you need a short term boost then go for it, but to be honest, a good varied diet should be enough on it's own to provide all the vitamins, minerals etc., that you need. Plus, there's not a lot of difference between the brands except the price so it doesn't really matter which one you choose.

I take daily multivitamin with iron, but not because of being D. I don't eat any meat / fish / poultry, so need a little something extra.

Per above, with a varied enough diet, shouldn't be a problem / requirement....

And Boots own for me....like Nivea v ?90 face cream - compare the labels and there is no difference !

As has been said a good diet is normally all you need but from my own experience I do take a multi-vitamin & per my GP's advice vitamin D3 over the winter months (just started for this year).

He told me that use of multi-vitamins is personal choice he didn't recommend one way of another as no medical evidence they did any good or not.

When I stoppped the multi my nails went really brittle & splilt something awful so I went back on them & my nails have improved. Apart from the D3 I personally wouldn't take a single vitamin in isolation as I'd wonder/worry that I was having too much of 1 type. I know too much of any 1 vitamin can cause health issues themselves.

For info when diagnosed with T2 I switched to the I think the brand is Diatome (made by the same firm as the "Well man/woman") supposed to be suitable for diabetics. Can't say whether they are but I tend to fall for marketing gimicks.

hi laura
I sometimes take echinacea during the winter months to boost my immune system, but like others have said, a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg are key. I have seen vitamins / "potions" targeted at diabetics but I would personally stay very far away from them. 🙂. I dont know of any scientific evidence which justifies the use of these things so think its just a money making ploy.....😉

My dad swears by anything with zinc in it. We just had those bassitt jelly ones. Full of sugar like jelly babies tasty. Not sure if they work or make any difference. If they make you feel better even if it's placebo that's okay for me 🙂

I watched a programme last night on BBC 2 , Trust me I'm a Dr. and there was a piece on vitamins. The question was "Are vitamin pills money down the loo?'

There is also a debate as to who should be taking statins.

It is well worth watching as was the previous week.

I've missed the first two episodes, fully intending to watch them! Might try catch up if my broadband is compliant 🙂 I wish BBC channels had a Freeview '+1' channel like the commercial channels. I think they do on Freesat. I like Michael Mosely, speaks a lot of sense on medical matters 🙂
