Hmm, so I've just got back from the latest podiatrists appointment. I wouldn't say it was the most informative...the young woman I saw banged on about complex v. simple carbs, and advised plant-based foods and potatoes. She didn't mention meat so maybe she was a veggie but cream, cheese, butter were all no-nos, and the worst of all was *fat*, which contributed to all sorts of ailments, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, prostate cancer, etc. etc. They eat potatoes in South America, so spuds were ok o_O. I tried to explain my low-carb diet but she didn't really stop for breath, so in the end I gave up.

She also scraped the small patch of hard skin on the ball of my foot and said it was a verruca, probably picked up from a shower or swimming pool. Really? I've been seen by 3 or 4 other people there and nobody has mentioned that before. Well, I can't swim so don't frequent swimming pools, and the only other person who uses the shower is Mr Marten - actually, he doesn't, he prefers to have a bath...

Oh well. I have you good people to speak sense and be encouraging :D.

It's going to be a busy few days now so I wish you all a very
***MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!***

One of the curiosities about the NHS is that conflicting advice can be given under what appear to be the same circumstances. Just about every other large organisation in the world (except maybe some governments) realised long ago that sort of thing needed to be stopped because it gave the organisation a bad name. There is a strong argument for spending new money, not on more staff, but in getting the current lot to work as a unit rather than a lot of competing interests.

To be fair, this is an area where disinformation and misinformation seem to be rife. With so many competing interests and the "diet" industry as well as food industries trying to push a narrative, even in scientific circles, I'm sure a HCP basically has no chance and it is only through personal evidence that they learn what actually works. Which is unfortunate because some things like different diets all probably work to some degree (I mean you can go vegan low carb diet and it'd work, but it's not the vegan that's the determining factor right?).

I guess I'll see how lucky I am when I visit the hospital again next month and hear what the consultant has to say. The DSN seems to be switched on to the various diet-based approaches, so that's a good sign.

Merry Christmas to you too PM!
