I've no idea. I'm going round tomorrow so I'll show her this thread. 🙂
Ah ok basal testing is only needed to be done by diabetics on a basal/bolus regime I think x

And even then not all of us are told we need to. I never did Basal testing until I went to Portsmouth hospital for my care.

Very true the DSN has never mentioned it to me, when I was experiencing a few regular hypo's (it was too much bolus) but they never once suggested doing a basal test just a we may have to reduce your basal 1 unit, having changed the ratio for bolus I've never done a proper basal test although tested a couple of times one day when I accidently missed lunch and remained very stable x

Why do you have to fast? I'm trying to do this too, overnight, to lose weight ie breakfast at ten dinner at five, nothing till the next day. Killer. Why do you have to do it though? I'm very interested. 🙂

Fasting triggers autophagy which is beneficial for health or even longevity

autophagy
Well, Wikipedia has a rather lengthy explanation but it appears that there are both positive & negative aspects to autophagy.... Guess it'd take a lot more than a quick read to get my head around it.
Why do you have to fast?
I'm sure that Jason Fung, an advocate of IF probably has a few youtube lectures on the subject (in fact I know he has but not watched any for over a year). For myself, it's always been the way I eat, often only eating one (carb laden) meal a day when I worked in an office (prior to DX). Personally I prefer to eat when hungry or in the evening (the amount depends on whether I'm hungry or not). I find that I have sufficient energy for the day & my BG is not adversely affected now that I have got my diet well established
