Erm there are plenty of places that do just a plain fish fillet of various kinds without batter or anything and yes you can eat just plain salad there is nothing wrong with that! And fyi you do get warm salads we are trying to help but you seem not to take anything on board

by saying there are planty of places that do just plain fish fillet does not help at all, it's ridiculous to think that you help with that

I guarantee there is nothing in Essex that does that, apart from very rare niche restaurants
you CANNOT get that in a regular pub or regular takeaway or convenience store / petrol station

I am talking about low carb options that are abundant, not some super expensive high society restaurant that you can only find one every 20 miles

I know I don't get my 5 a day!!)
Haha Rosie neither do I but recently it was in the news that we should be aiming for more than 5 portions a day lol x

Do as Rosie has suggested or ask for it to be substituted most places will do that I live in a small town where there is a small sandwich shop which do salad boxes, a few takeaways who are only too happy to help with any requests you can't tell me that somewhere like Essex isn't going to have available options, as for petrol stations or convenience stores they do salads with meats Tec, or if it's cause your on the go make up your own stuff and take it with you simple

What a very rude response to people who are trying to help you. It really sounds like you just want to argue with any suggestions that are given.
Don't you have wetherspoons pubs on Essex? They sell plain butterfly chicken burgers or beef burgers. In fact lots of things that are pretty low carb. Just one example of somewhere to go that isn't expensive.

Nearly every single pub that serves food does burgers, chicken, steak, mixed grill etc. Wetherspoons, Yates', Harvester, etc. I can guarantee there's a lot of them in Essex.

Also I love a good carvery. I haven't been in a while but I remember asking (and paying a SMALL fee) for extra meat, then piling vegetables on my plate instead of all the carbs I used to have.

Cheap, convenient food from petrol stations etc is never going to be filling and healthy anyway. Why not make food at home instead? Do you enjoy cooking? I didn't, and still don't, but I've definitely started cooking more and finding low carb recipes

Apparently not Rosie from other threads that have been posted they do not want to cook as it involves cleaning up afterwards x

Can I just say that this is a diabetes forum and not a weight loss forum. Your signature does not indicate what type of diabetes you have and your questions and observations do not seem to encompass a concern for your diabetes.
Having said that, even Morrisons sell salads, they regularly sell salmon fillet (with new potatoes) and I quite often have their fish and chips and as Rosie points out eat the fish and leave the batter (they don't give you many chips anyway). One of the reasons you may not feel satiated after your food is that you are used to eating large quantities and you will have to train your stomach to accept less (eating sausage rolls, cinamon rolls and baguettes will bulk you out and stretch your stomach). Protein, as you have noticed keeps you full for longer, so aim to eat meat, fish and cheese and cut back on the carbs (potatoes, pasta, rice, pastry)
I think you may have insulted a great number of people in Essex, which has it's fair share of excellant eateries. You really ought to look at the JD Wetherspoons website and menu (they even offer soup as a substitute for chips) and there are 3 in Essex. No you will not get fish fillet in a Wetherspoons, but I am sure there are a number of places round the coast that do. And of course you can always frequent a Little Chef (Ham omlette) and several dishes at £6-7 with bacon and egg (you might have to ignore the bread and has browns), but perfectly filling and low carb.
I really think you aren't trying hard enough.

You can even go to Wimpy and have sausage, egg, bacon and mushrooms (I have, its really good) no carbs and filling. A pub/restaurant will do a mixed grill without the chips (substitute with extra mushrooms or tomato) and small independent outlets are good at catering for individual dietary needs on request. Essex has loads of eateries. Also, there really isn't any need to be so arsey when people are trying to be helpful o_O

I'm a coeliac so can't eat gluten. Yet I can find plenty to eat. All the products you listed as the only things you can get all have gluten. And no, I don't go to expensive places.

I'll have, for example, a burger without the bun. Plain chicken with vegetables instead of chips.

For me personally, I don't cut the chips out because of carbs. I eat carbs. Potatoes are my favourite. But when eating out, chips are usually cooked with breaded products, so cross contaminated. So I find myself eating lower carbs when I'm out.

Eggs are also a great thing to eat. I do testing to check my background insulin levels (on the pump) and I can't eat anything that will raise my sugar levels. I'm supposed to fast completely but that's quite hard to do for 12 hours, so instead I'll have some eggs.

What people are saying is true. Carbs aren't inherently bad. It's about finding which carbs works for you. I find that rice makes my sugars spike badly (though I'm better at managing that spike now) where as potatoes are okay for me (except mash potato). Also, if you eat a lower GI food with a higher one, it'll slow the higher one.

The advice I was given was to have carbs with protein and vegitable. So the slow release of the veg will slow the release of the carbs.

I also find that when I'm craving food, I will have a bit of cheese or a boiled egg. Seems to satisfy me as a little snack.

I don't cook...
It's impossible if you eat out...

I would suggest a place on a basic cookery course would be a very good idea, then you could learn how to plan, prepare & cook healthy (balanced) meals for yourself where the carb content would be entirely up to you.

I do agree that if all you can do is eat out then it will be more difficult, but are you type 1 or 2?

Why do you have to fast? I'm trying to do this too, overnight, to lose weight ie breakfast at ten dinner at five, nothing till the next day. Killer. Why do you have to do it though? I'm very interested. 🙂

@Amberzak is talking about fasting when doing basal testing to make sure their basal is set at the right amount so eat no carbs as obviously carbs increase bs x

Oh right, does everybody have to do that then? Crumbs and not even wanting to lose weight neither. This D is a pain in the rear.

Just people that are on insulin have to do it Ditto, our basal is designed to keep everything ticking over right throughout the day so we test to make sure that our bs stays stable throughout a fasting period and make changes based on the results or if its set ok just leave it as it is, although if anyone can explain it better and I'm sure they could please do x

My sister injects insulin into her tum, she's never mentioned this. I shall tackle her about it on Friday. Thank you for the info.

Some people luckily don't need to test their basal often. Unfortunately I do as my pancreas occasionally decides to help and chuck out some insulin! It's quite simple really, but sounds complicated if you're not on insulin yourself! I follow this website for how to test my basal. If your sister doesn't already know about it (although her nurse should have explained it when starting on insulin), it may be wise to show her this https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/ I know other members also find this link helpful!

I'm on an insulin pump which gives different amounts of insulin in small trickles throughout the day (plus a large dose when I eat and tell it how much I've eaten).

I have been experiencing some regular hypos so I think as the weather is changing, my mid morning basal rate is a bit too high.

I never did basal testing when on multiple injections. Didn't know I should.

I've no idea. I'm going round tomorrow so I'll show her this thread. 🙂
