Simon, when you wash your hands before you test do you use warm water? I know when I have been in a rush and used cold it is harder to get a blood drop. Also I am naughty I favour 2 fingers so they get tougher to get blood out of. I have the Aviva Nano as well and have only once not got enough blood to test.

I only read that recently about squeezing of fingers, it may have been on here as I can't remember where I read it 😱 lol
 
Something else that I was told, and which certainly makes a difference to me, is not to try and get the blood immediately after lancing. Allow a couple of seconds before giving a gentle squeeze and you are more likely to get blood. This is because the initial reaction of the finger is to close up the 'injury' when you pierce it, and giving it a couple of seconds to relax means the blood will be easier to get. 🙂
 
I was recently told not to squeeze my finger during a pharmacy review, the pharmacist was surprised I didn't know about it. Maybe info not being passed on or not knowing which patient knows & which doesn't.
 
@ GlucoseGary - thanks for the advice setting the signature..

I tried to do a test of taking two readings, one with finger squeezing after lancing and another not squeezed (same time, two middle fingers). This was difficult as the blood was very reluctant to come out without squeezing but the results were 0.1 difference. To my mind that is not significant as I can take two readings from the same blood droplet and get a 0.3 difference - presumably due to meter error margin.

I'm going to be squeezing gently from now on but not near finger end, so I can get it over and done with quicker😉.
