Before and after on my back doors.

I fitted the 'before' doors in 2002. The doors fitted by earlier occupants of the house were quite crude and made of hardboard on a wooden frame. The doors weren't actually exterior doors. I re-enforced them on the inside and gave them plenty of coats of exterior gloss. They have lasted twenty three years so I'm not complaining.

The 'after' doors consist of one exterior door and one sheet of 400mm jointed board which was fortuitously just the right width. The board had a smooth face so I used a router to make it match the main door in appearance.1000000135.jpg
Note the new catflap. Max, our big tabby cat, is starting to get a bit chonky and was having to wriggle a bit to get through the original one. This one is just a little bigger.

It is a sobering thought that, if these doors last for twenty three years too, they will probably outlive me and become somebody else's problem. I would expect them to last longer because I've learned a lot since I installed the originals. Note the rain deflector at the base of the newer doors.
