I just visited a beer garden! Very excited that they've reopened 🙂 however as a recently diagnosed T1D this was my first pub trip since being on insulin and my blood sugar spiked quite a bit from my two beers and now I feel guilty..please tell me it's ok to indulge and get things wrong every now and then!

God I hope so! After 31 years I've supped some stuff in my time. I very rarely drink more than 2 nowadays and follow all the rules I have been told over the years...don't drink on an empty stomach, it may cause a low over night so I usually have a snack before bed. I'm not advocating getting slaughtered...ever really...but I did cane it a bit at times when younger and I managed.

Hi @Martin55
YES it is okay to indulge and YES we all get things wrong.

It was the Pims that got to me yesterday afternoon as we sat out having our first meal in the pub garden.
like other things with Diabetes it is a case of finding what works for you, so it necessary to ‘practice these things’. You are already mindful of what is going on. I tend to just do a few more tests if it is new alcohol that I am trying. I definitely got it wrong yesterday!! Way more carbs in it than I guessed.

Some drink have more carbs than others. The Alcohol content varies with different things, and whilst that is being processed by your liver the liver won’t dribble out glucose. It does one thing at a time and prioritises the alcohol. Just be aware of what happened last time, and add some carbs if you went low, and perhaps test during the night whilst you sort out what works for you.

It is so much to get used to. It DOES get easier. None of us get it right all the time.
Just do the best that you can.

People on here ‘get it’, so just keep in touch and keep asking questions, or have a good moan.
I know I do sometimes, and people on here will understand exactly what it is like and why we need to.

Of course it is! It’s a damn hard job trying to be a pancreas! Nobody is perfect - ever.

Unlikely the Pimms will have done for you - mainly gin - however the lemonade they usually dilute it with in pubs won't have been 'diet' lemonade.
