Been told i have to cut back on cups of tea , after seeing a bladder doctor on tuesday !!!! Admittly i do drink about 10 cups of tea a day , but this is this my way of coping with stress , i dont drink or smoke but reach for a nice hot cuppa when stressed :( ,it didnt help that the doctor was talking to me like a 5 year old who had , had too many sweets . Been told the most i can have is 2-3 cups of decafinated tea which actually isnt too bad but i have had the most awful headache yesterday and today which i can only think is caffine withdrawal 😱

Sorry to hear this Jenny. The headaches could be caffeine withdrawal - could you try tapering your tea consumption to the recommended levels ?

Sometimes Drs don't realise how they sound.

The headaches are caffine withdrawel, it is worse when you have to cut down or cut out coffee. I agree with Margie, a gradual reduction is better than just stopping as it gives your body a chance to adjust.

Have you thought about having a herbal or fruit infusion? I know it is not the same as a cup of tea, but a lot of the actions are the same like putting on a kettle and pouring the hot water in to the cup or tea pot, removing the tea bag or pouring through a strainer.

In times of stress people like to do familiar things it is a form of comfort and something routine to think about. Because it is familiar and comforting it also gives you a chance to draw breath and think.

I only drink decaffeinated coffee and tea now. The Rooibos tea's are quite nice, especially the vanilla one. Don't need much, if any, milk with those either.

Hi Jenny,
sorry to hear about the tea withdrawall, not nice.
The liquid you have lost by not drinking the tea, have you replaced by another drink? The reason I ask is, any chance you are now dehydrated, thus the headache?

I tell you if its not one thing with the D it's another. I pre diagnosed used to drink about 10 cups of coffee a day. I now have 4 to 5 a day plus lots of water in between.

Those headaches will be caffeine withdrawal - I went de caffinated for a while, but naughty me has switched back.

Hope the headache stop soon and remember - drinks lots of water xxx

Jenny sorry to hear about the withdrawels, I dont do hot drinks but can sympathise as I have a o/h who has 12 cups of coffee a day or should I say used to ,when he got told he had a stomach ulcer coffee was one thing he got told he had to cut out....

Awwww Jenny! Sometimes it just feels like Docs are there to say 'Dont do that' about *everything*!

I drink Green Tea now as it has lots of health benefits. Was hard to switch at first but then so was cutting two sugars out of normal tea when I was first diagnosed.

Thanks for all you ideas and tips 🙂 ive know for a while and think i have tried almost every brand of fruit and herbal tea there is but just dont like them unfortunately :( Nothing compares to a good old cup of tea 😱

I'm similar - I do very occasionally have a fruit tea - lemon and ginger is my favourite - but usually just ordinary tea, about 8 mugs a day 🙂 I did get a taste for Russian teas when I had been over there, but that was in the days when I could sweeten it with jam or sugar! 😱

Yep, I've gone through the caffeine withdrawal thing too, I went 3 months on decaf but am now back on normal - I was hoping it would help lower my blood pressure, but no improvement so I went back to normal tea. I did discover some other teas in the process though - Jasmine tea, a type of green tea with a milder sweeter taste (not actually sweet but I find green tea bitter) and Rooibos Chai - a cinnamon spiced tea which is naturally caffine free, lovely 🙂

What is wrong with normal tea? I drink loads of it and 10 a day does not sound very much to me. I do drink water but miss tea if I don't drink enough.

Depends what you want from a tea. I like Earl Grey and Lady Grey, both are nice with a splash of milk or a slice of lemon. Lady Grey has a lighter flavour, although no decaff version like Earl Grey has.

Normal tea or coffee contains caffeine which acts as a diuretic effect on the bladder so you pee more than necessary.

To be honest I think caffeine is the least of my worries!

Mike - same here! I was bought up by parents who drink 4 cups before they leave the house at 7:30am and can't sleep at night unless they have had 2 cups of coffee before bed 😱 (very weak though thankfully!)

Maybe you should just try cutting down a little and replace some of your tea with a decaf alternative? If you are feeling rubbish it can't be good for you and must mean you are changing things too quickly. Our bodies need time to adjust!
