I think I got lax when I got happy about my HBA1C going back down to normal levels and kidneys doing great I kind of indulged the last week or so especially yesterday and today.

I got a box of these "no added sugar cake rusks" boy I love those. They haven't really affected my blood sugars but they are calorific and I have been downing them like crazy.

Today I just had some chicken seekh kebabs and also a plate of vegetarian frankfurters. Just tested my BG (though it's been just an hour or so since I ate) and my BG is 9.9! That's the highest it's been for a while.

Don't know why I suddenly have the urge for sweets and snacky stuffs. Just also had a box of blueberries.

The thing is berries, no added sugar chocolate, sugar free jelly, chicken and fish and cheese, are have little if any effects on my BG.

Vegetarian food especially the Tivall brand sausages and burgers seem to be raising my BG levels. Maybe need to cut down on the sausages moving forward.

I find it’s easier not to have things I can’t resist in the house. No matter how good I promise myself I’m going to be, there are some things I can’t stop over-indulging in. I just had too many yummy crisps that I’d bought for the Easter weekend. I was only going to have a few but....

I think you’d be best not seeing lower carb and lower sugar foods as ‘free’ necessarily unless they’re below a certain calorie level eg the sugar-free jellies probably. I think I remember you mentioning the veggie sausages before? If you can’t stop at a couple, maybe they’re not such a good choice?

Apologies if that’s stating the obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people can lose their willpower faced with certain foods. So don’t blame yourself. Just move on and try to rationalise why it happened.

If you literally mean binging, then that’s a nasty vicious circle to be stuck in, but it can be broken. X

Sometimes the substitute foods can have hidden carbs to bulk them up so it's worth checking the labels regardless of what the item is.

We all fall off the wagon at times so don't e hard on yourself. You've identified the issue so can make more supportive choices moving forward.

Could be a useful time to look into a sweet treat that's easily available yet doesn't raise you BG levels for times such as this.

You are not alone @Purple_Panda! I not only fell off, but under the wheels of the wagon on Saturday when we had our first Indian take out for over a year. I had nearly half a tub of rice and a corner of naan bread with my lamb tikka dopiaza, and didn't dare test my bloods! Needless to say I have crawled back on the wagon with my tail between my legs, but am also missing this week's weigh in. I'm just trying not to beat self up...too much 😉
