Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi All. I’ve been type 2 diabetic for just over 10 years and have spent 9 years of that in denial. I was recently admitted to hospital after a Gastro virus laid me out and whilst there they went to town on my Diabetes!!!!. Sugars off the charts, keytones horribly high etc. Nine days later I’m back at home and giving this disease the respect I should have from the start. I’m on Insulin (hopefully short term) and my levels are all heading very much in the right direction, not had to inject rapid insulin for two days now as readings are in spec and stable. I have had a couple of Hypos since coming out of Hospital so will speak to GP at my review re maybe ditching the rapid Insulin and sticking to the long acting one. I appreciate everything I’m experiencing now is MY fault but I’m going to get on top of this and give it the respect it deserves. Looking forward to being a part of these forums and any advice/help is gratefully received x

Your fault or not what matters now is how you deal with it. No one's going to judge you and there's lots of help and advice here. Welcome!

You and probably many others but now is the time to face it head on as you have had a wake up call. So take a serious look at your diet, doing a food diary is a good start to see where the carbohydrates are in what you are eating and by modifying your intake you can reduce the insulin. Do take advise either here or from your GP or diabetic team before making any drastic changes as you are on insulin.

Welcome to the forum @Pugsley1470

Try to be kind to yourself. Beating yourself up over past mistakes can be exhausting, and leave you with less energy and motivation to tackle the ‘now’. You can’t change the decisions you took in the past, but you can try to understand them, and to learn from them.

What is much more important is what you do going forwards, and it sounds like you are making great progress and treating your ‘wake up call’ as a real catalyst to improve your health and wellbeing. Well done!

Sounds a bit harsh on yourself . I’m an idiot too. What you are doing now is great and it’s onwards on this journey . Few stops here m there but now aware to pick yourself up. All the best. This is not a judging place well at least I’ve not come across it. I think we all know the struggles and I hope you get support .
