Decided to have potato wedges last night with steak instead of jacket potato. I weighed them raw, 325 grams, checked in Carbs and Cals and it said that amount was a whopping 82 grams of carbs! Oh well, so what? I injected my Novorapid 20 minutes before it was ready as always. It was only then I realised that the Carbs and Cals book gave me the cooked weight! I googled raw potatoes and the carb amount was 52! Oops! Mr Eggy gave me some of his potatoes, bless him, and I sat with my trusty Libre in my hand and checked every half hour. At 9 I started to go low so had some Greek yoghurt with raspberries with a wee bit of REAL sugar and a sprinkling of Jordan’s Superberry Granola. Went to bed on a 6.2 going up. 5.1 at 2am and a 6 at 5.50. Phew!! Thank goodness I realised and thank goodness for the Libre. 😱

Oops.

Whatever way you look at it 60g of raw potato always = 10g CHO. Only difference is by cooking them different ways we can alter the speed at which they (the carbs) hit our bloodstream!

I looked at the picture of 325 grams of wedges in Carbs and Cals and thought, what a lot of tatties! Still didn’t twig, I chose wedges as well because I know mash spikes me terribly. Lesson learnt, I will remember that about the 60grms of raw potato, top tip. Cheers!

You’ve not been a numpty eggy, it’s a learning game. I’m still learning 21 years after kick off, and I’m no numpty.

Don’t say it.😉

Don’t be daft, you are not daft, just a blip in concentration. Glad it all turned out ok
