When do you do your bedtime test ie
- when you get into bed
- after/before any supper
- 1/2 hr or so before bed...........

Ideally I like to test at least a couple of hours after I last ate before I go to bed, Depndant on the result I may or may not eat. If I have supper because Im hungry (Not for diabetic levels purposes) then I would inject to match the food, just as I would for my lunch and dinner, matching carbs to insulin (Also taking into account insulin that may be still in my system from earlier, and currecnt levels).

I don't eat after my evening meal. The only time I used to was in the first year or so after being diagnosed, when I would have a slice of bread and peanut butter (low GI) if I was a little on the low side before bed. I stopped doing that once I became confident in my basal (lantus), and of course now I don't inject any basal so am confident I am OK even on a low 4 before bed.

I stopped having anything after my evening meal because I didn't want to inject for it and risk having circulating insulin (other than basal) whilst I slept - as I live alone, it wasn't worth risking a bad hypo. I'm now used to that so don't really want anything - I might nibble a few nuts through the evening, or a piece of cheese that I don't need to inject for.

I don't normally have 'supper' - if I do eat any carbs, then I bolus for them the same as I would any other time of day. Still do my BG at the moment when I get up off me bum in the living room, to actually GO to bed.
