hi my names becky😱, im a type 1 diabetic and at the moment am having a hard time, I have had quite high sugars because I still havnt found the best insulin for me my diet is actually ok, sometimes I do eat a bit more or have a cake etc. but the main problem for me is my weight since changing to different insulin I have gained weight, im not saying its the insulin, but I am eating probably better than before I was a diabetic and I cant seem to loose weight, I went through an exercising face and nothing seem to really change only lost a few ponds, if any one knows of a diet or food plan that can work would be much appreciated.

Hi BeckyG, welcome to the forum 🙂 I moved your post to a thread of its own so it wouldn't get lost in the other one.

Sorry to hear you are having problems :( Have you been diagnosed long? What insulin regime are you on currently, and what were you on before? It might be a good idea to start a food diary, noting in particular how many carbs are in everything you normally eat and drink. Then you can use this as a starting point to look for areas where you might be able to substitute the carbs with other, more diabetes-friendly items. Try not to worry too much about the weight at the moment, the food diary will be a starting point and then you will have good information to start the 'new you'! 🙂

I know that quite a few of our members have had good success by joining a slimming club. Slimmer's World seems to be a good one, as they have a programme which offers food choices suitable for a person with diabetes i.e. not carb-heavy. Have a look at the following thread for a great success story from one of our members:

and this one:

Hope this helps a little - please let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to help! 🙂

Welcome Becky 🙂 I know it might sound daft but when I was young I could not put weight on. I was diagnosed in 1966. In my 20s I used to sail catamarans & min weight was 10 stone 10. I used to have to put two bricks on my boat to do the Nationals :D. Its odd being T1 if you are doing ok you put on weight if you are out of control you loose weight  Good luck 🙂

Welcome to the forum BeckyG 🙂

Having high BGs doesn't normally cause you to gain weight - usually to lose it, so I'm a bit nonplussed - what sort of things are you eating?
