Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi Gang,
My first post on here so thought I would share a recent disappointing experience. I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2005 and am now insulin dependent. I play a lot of quizzes on Facebook to keep the gray matter ticking over, and recently an advertisement for something called mydiabetes.diet kept popping up. It looked very attractive and was to be personalised for me by their dieticians. It cost £52 so in a senior moment I paid for it with Paypal. It arrived by email 24 hours later and as soon as I looked at it, I realised it was not for me or my circumstances. I am aware that due to internet distance selling regulations, I was entitled to a full refund within 14 days. Their help team offered a reply within 24 hours service. I got a reply several days later, asking me why I did not want the diet. I told them it was unsuitable. Their next letter said I could only have £26 back as I could reproduce their material and presumable try to sell it on. I dont think so. I wrote back quoting the law, but the last reply said they will let Paypal decide but this could take 20 days. A USA/Latvia operation. Read Trustpilot before you ever commit and stick with tried and trusted organisations (you are here now)

Hello @Ricardo19616 welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear you have been caught out like this. Have you tried contacting Pay pal yourself as they may be able to help you sort this out more quickly.

We have plenty of knowledgeable people on here who live with this condition who will be only too happy to help with any advise or book etc recommendations that they have found helpful.

What insulin’s are you on

Welcome to the forum @Ricardo19616

Sorry to hear that you got caught out. As @Ljc says there are plenty of people on here with practical ideas as they are managing their condition day to day. Fire away with any questions that you have.

Hi @Ricardo19616 I have seen that advert in Facebook myself, never been tempted as I’m the worst fussy eater in the world but it does look appealing. I agree with @Ljc that you should contact Facebook themselves as this is obviously a rip-off. Hope you get your full refund.
Any questions or help you need with food just post on here and there are so many people who will be able to help you. Good luck.

PayPal is usually very good about such things, and Facebook ought to chime in too if you alert them - particularly if you mention the accusation made of copying the material. I hope you can report it within the time limit, which is, I think 30 days as many scammers want you to wait, and wait, and then they laugh at you as the time is expired.

Thanks for your replies guys. Paypal will have matters sorted by 2nd August at the latest. I read Trustpilot after I signed up and words like Scam kept popping out at me from reviewers. My next step is to report them to Facebook and the advertising standards people in the UK. They seem to be exploiting vulnerable people who are so keen to find a way off meds. I had a stroke recently which must have knocked out my common sense button. I am on Humulin M3 part slow release. 24 and 28 ml a day. I will update the group when I get my money back. This group has a lovely warm fuzzy feeling. Shame I did not sign earlier.

Sorry you were caught out @Ricardo19616

Hops you can get your money back... and welcome to the forum 🙂

Lots of helpful advice, recipe suggestions and individually tailored ‘diabetes coaching’ here - and it won’t cost you a penny. All you have to do is keep asking questions and folks here will be only too pleased to offer help 🙂

At least you paid through PayPal - that was not a mistake.
