ok as the title says im on basal bolus and this week i was invited out to a birthday celebration at a well know buffet restaurant i declined the invite as i didnt know what to do in this situation.

do you fetch the food then attempt to carb count and hope youve got it right and then jab and eat??
what if you have another plate?
what if you dont eat whats on the plate ?
prob a stupid question but didnt want to feel a freak staring at my plate and just get confused.

Buffets are one of those situations that insulin pumps are made for!

But when my son was on injections, the method we used was to give him an initial injection as a sort of downpayment, then just keep a mental note of the carbs he ate, then give another injection for the balance of insulin required. If the buffet is likely to be spread over several hours, more than 2 injections may be called for over the course of the meal. I don't think you can really get away with a single injection in these circumstances 🙂

Here's a tip that works for me... if you have something to eat before you go, you're likely to eat less at the buffet and reduce the guesswork!
