I'm invited to 2 Bar bs this weekend. Very newbie . Im being treated as type 2 but may be type 1.5. High readings.
1 I found lamb burgers - small and list looks ok . ?
2 No bun ? Is there a swap
3 Salad - one host will make me a plain salad . I 'll take one to the 2nd event
4 Any other suggestions to pep up the meal
5 Desert - I'm trying to find a suitable recipe that will transport. Any pointers?
Thanks & apologies for so many queries..........

Burgers are low carb without a bun - and there might be onions. Mushrooms might be too much to expect though...
Salad - as long as there isn't sweetcorn should be fine - I have bags of mixed salad, but add in coleslaw, celery, beetroot radish - chopped fennel today as I found some growing wild, cucumber - anything in the fridge and a slosh of good wine vinegar and olive oil dressing.
A jelly - I make them with gelatine, double strength, summer fruit no added sugar squash to flavour and colour it, then add a bag of frozen blueberries. Served with extra thick cream.

Any type of burger patty is fine - just ditch the bun and wrap in lettuce leaf. All meats (unless with a particularly heavy carbohydrate sauce) are OK. The same with fish, hard cheeses and eggs. Sausages are fine if they have a high meat content, but some types have a lot of filler which is carbs.
Berries with full fat greek yogurt make a nice (but not too sweet) desert.

Stewed Rhubarb is good, but if you need to sweeten it, use something like Stevia instead of sugar or honey.

Veggie kebabs work well... chunks of courgette, aubergine, mushrooms, peppers, tomato and onion on skewers. Glaze them with a mix of olive oil and balsamic. I'm a big fan of cheese coleslaw with burgers but any full fat coleslaw is good. You could make a low carb trifle to take with you. I make a microwave mug cake with a mix of ground almonds and coconut flour and stevia for the sponge. I usually add some cocoa too because I like chocolate. Then I make a strong sugar fee jelly, put frozen berries in the bottom of my bowl and pour half the jelly (usually make up 2 pints worth but only make it up to 1.5 pints so it is stronger, as the juice from the berries and alcohol will dilute it a bit) over it and leave it to set, then cut the mug sponge into cubes and place that on top, maybe drizzle with sherry or rum or port and pour over remaining jelly then leave to set in the fridge. You can then make a proper custard with eggs and cream or I usually just top with whipped cream.
Or eclairs are easy to eat, standing around in the garden and just 10-15g carbs each if they are not whopper ones, so a nice treat without being too naughty and I am sure they will go down well with others.

Hope you have a great time and let us know how you get on.

BBQ a large portobello mushroom instead of a bun on top of the burger.
Salad vegetables of almost any description are fine - be cautious with beetroot and sweet peppers, but moderate amounts should be fine. Salad dressings in bottles may contain sugar, check the carb count on the bottle. I make my own blue cheese dressing using mashed blue cheese of any variety well mixed into equal quantities of creme fraiche and mayo.

This brings back memories of the first BBQ I attended after diagnosis. As dessert I was offered bananas done on the BBQ in foil with apparently "the finest brown sugar" or a pavlova laden with exotic fruit. I abstained from both.
