Hi I’m new on here my name is Mark I’m 40 years old, 2 years ago I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes ever since then I have constantly had a bad metallic taste in my mouth, I have been to the doctors and dentist on numerous of occasions to no avail, I was wounding if anyone has had the same experience.

Welcome to the forum, Mark Goodrich. Did you start taking a new medication when you were diagnosed with diabetes? If so, check the patient information leaflet(s) and see if metallic taste is listed as a side effect. Or ask as pharmacist.

Have they ruled out candida? It's a common fungal oral infection in those with less-than-perfect blood sugars.

Hello Mark, welcome to the forum. Some oral diabetic medications can cause a metallic taste in your mouth. Your profile does not state whether you are type 1 or type 2 and whether you are treated by injection which would not cause the metallic tasting effect or tablets which might.

Hi and welcome to this forum.

Have you got any new medications? Some of them can leave a funny/odd taste in your mouth. Also look at your diet, some foods can leave an after taste.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum 🙂 I wonder, did you start drinking diet drinks and eating stuff with artificial sweeteners in them after your diagnosis? For some people these can leave a metallic aftertaste.

Mark has your doctor ruled out sinusitis? I saw this on Medicine.net which may not apply but is interesting anyway; - apparently your condition is called 'dysgeusia'. Hope you can find some answers soon.

'Metallic taste in the mouth can also arise due to a disorder of the nerves that control taste sensations. The condition of altered sense of taste is medically known as dysgeusia. Dysgeusia can cause a number of different alterations in taste, including a metallic taste.'
