Hi all, long time no post.

I have just come back from the doctors. It was a emergency appointment so did not see my regular G.P. My reason for going was I have been passing blood in my urine. I recognised other symptoms of a urinary infection from past experiences but this is the first time I have passed blood. Anyway, I am on yet more antibiotics.

I saw a trainee G.P and he asked if he could do my diabetic review as it was due. I must admit I am a little concerned about some of the results and it has brought back here to you kind hearted decent listening people.

For the first time I have glucose in my urine, I have been diabetic for three years. My hb1ac was slightly higher than it has been before. The most worrying thing was my weight however.

I am 6 foot 5 and pre diabetes my weight was 106 kg. I dieted and got it down below 99 kg. Today I am back up to 113kg.

I know I have been lax recently with my diet and I know I have been drinking more than reccomended. Guess I just needed this wake up call. Sat here a little concerned and also angry. I have been stupid and hopefully my long tern health will not be affected.

Guess im saying that I need to get back on the horse I have clearly fallen off and start again. Three years and back to square one. I know I will get messages of support from you all and I appreciate it but please feel free to tell me off as well, maybe thats what I need.

Thanks for listening(reading).

Its not about hard we hit, its how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward.

Sorry to hear things have taken a backwards step for you :(

Not going to tell you off, I'm sure you have hundreds of bruises from the stick your already beating yourself with.

You've done it before you CAN do it again, it's not easy but the rewards health wise Blah blah blah ......

Look forward to updates.

Take Care

Sarah 🙂

Consider yourself told off, but then hugged as well. Welcome back to the fold and hopefully we'll be able to give you some support as you get things back on track.

Hi Hemase, nice to hear from you again, but sorry to hear about the problems that have brought you back. It does sound like you need to get firm control of your diabetes. Glucose in the urine suggests quite a high level. Are you able to test your blood glucose i.e. has your doctor given you a meter and prtescribed strips? If not, I think this should be a priority so you can start to build a picture of where you need to make adjustments to your diet. Starting a food diary would also be a great help, recording in detail calories, carbs, fat and protein amounts and matching these against blood sugar readings. Are you on any medication for your diabetes?

It might also be worth getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - even though it's not your first year, you are going back to basics so it may prove useful as a guide.

Why not join in with the Weight Loss group too, for lots of mutual support? Keep us updated with your progress! 🙂

Thanks guys, I am on Metformin for the diabetes along with a load of other meds for various other things.
I have been beating myself up so thanks for the positive thoughts. I have a monitor but rarely use it as doctors and nurses have both said it offers very little benefit. Might reassess that now.
I will share some updates but I have had my wake up call and heres to the future.
Its not how far we fall but how quickly we get up.

...

It really annoys me when they say that! To me it's blindingly obvious that if you test before you eat, eat something, then test one or two hours after as it reaches the peak of digestion you will know whether what you ate had a good, bad or terrible effect on your blood sugar levels. How can that NOT be useful to know? What they mean is that, statistically, only small improvements in HbA1c are seen in studies, but that does not mean that you as an individual cannot make spectacular improvements by self-monitoring.

Definitely start using it again, here's a useful guide to the best way to approach testing:

Hi Memase

I'm fairly new to the forum and have found the folks here to be a real inspiration and a tower of strength. I'm glad you've decided to return because we all need a little support from time to time to achieve our goals. Well done to you for taking the first steps and good luck to you with your efforts. Katie

If you had been allowed to monitor then you would know whether your blood sugars are generally running high or whether its high due to your infection.

Drinking may be part of the reason for you weight gain -it enables you to ingest high number of calories very quickly.

Try not to let it get you down - and ask anything you are unsure of, and i am sur eyou will have some help to get back on track.

Hi Hemase ,
Nice to see you posting again but sorry about your recent issues,no one in here will ever tell you off,im sure none of us are perfect with our diabetes and we all have these blips, but thats all it is and you can get back on the right track,As Margie says maybe if your were allowed to test then you could keep a much closer eye on your levels,it really annoys me too that some are told not to test it is one of the best ways us diabetics can know whats going on with our levels. On a personal note ive just been told i had acid in my blood and had to have my statins upped so i know ive fallen off the wagon too but im trying my hardest to keep to the routine I built up when first diagnosed.

Anyway I wish you well and dont forget we are here for you in good and bad times in your diabetes journey x
