Before I was started on lisinopril over a decade ago my GP put me on a 24 hour monitor to check it was not just white coat hypertension. My BP was distinctly lower over the 24 hours but not ideal for a diabetic trying to avoid complications. The dose of lisinopril has crept up over the years as diabetes tends to affect the bodies regulatory system and my GP is thinking of adding another med rather than upp'ing the lisinopril (initially 5mg now 20 mg - split 10mg/10mg am/pm). He still tends to run a 24 hour check every three years or so.
As regards alcohol intake another GP recommended two pints of beer or a half bottle of wine per day max, but not more than five days per week.
