Hi, anyone who remembers me !
I have had a weird 18 months , my mother died, my brother and I are now estranged and I left my 2nd husband of only 4 years .I now live in E Sussex a short drive from one of my daughters and 14 month grandson. 🙂 My elder daughter, gay , had a civil partnership last year and is happy as anything !!
But ,as a result, my type 2 , which had been well under control has suffered comfort eating, cakes out with daughter and grandson, too many treats....... I have put some weight on, hopefully not too much , but when i went to the doc today with a grotty chest infection ( I saw a nurse .. brilliant!) she tested my blood sugar..13 . I was told when I lived in Lewisham that I couldn't have any test strips as I was using too many ( 4 a day as instructed) so I haven't tested for months. She has told me I can have as many strips as I want and has got me testing again. I hope I will soon get back on track and leave the nasty stuff in my life behind !
Thanks for the moan, I am finding living alone for the first time I have none to moan at anymore !!

Hello Ann, I joined after you left. I can relate to what you say about comfort eating during life-changing events and the resulting weight gain. It took me several years to get back on track and accustomed to living alone. Join us in the Weight Loss thread when your head is in the right place for tackling your gain. 🙂

Hi Ann, nice to hear from you again, but sorry to hear of the problems you have had and that your levels have gone a bit awry. It's great news that the nurse has encouraged you to test - why can't they all be like her! 🙂

Have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S for a good guide on efficient testing. Hope you can get things under better control very soon 🙂

Hi AnnW

It's not easy, but keep up the good work, testing will allow you to know what you can safely eat.

As you are not far go down to the coast, just walk and listen to the waves it has a calming effect, I find it helps no end.

You are now on the right road, keep in there.

Cheers😎

Welcome back AnnW 🙂

It's great to see you back. Sorry to hear about the problems that you have had. Here's to a positive future🙂

Hello Ann and welcome back. Sorry you have been through the mill.

Thanks so much everyone for a warm welcome. I do go to the sea and walk often on the cliffs at Seaford, there are some wonderful NT properties too near to me. Most places are about 30 mins drive , but it's lovely countryside !
At the moment I have had an awful chest infection lasting 10 days and I haven't been swimming, I miss it a lot , but I hope next week will be better .

Just a bit scary, I have eaten extremely well today but just tested and I have gone up from 13 this morning with the nurse, to 18.5 ..... help ! I am hoping it s the heavy does of steroids she put me on and the antibiotic.... it is a bit depressing :(

Hope everyone is ok 🙂 it is nice to be back to chat with people who know what I am talking about and empathise !

It is strange alone, but I have joined a good local choir ( finished for summer ) good to look forward to in September

Thanks guys 🙂

Hi Ann, you have hit the nail on the head steroids will increase your blood sugar plus your appetite 😡 fingers crossed though the infection will clear quicker with the help of steroids.

Thank goodness for that Sue, I was worrying as i really had eaten well today.I haven't over eaten , yet !!
I have asthma as well as D and am having great difficulty breathing at the moment.. hence steroids.. 10 days ,8 tablets at once each day, it's like a juggling act with all this stuff isn't it ?!!
Thanks 🙂

Thanks for your encouragement Lee Lee... nice to meet you 🙂

Hi Ann, sorry you've been so poorly. I've had asthma all my life and steroids many times. They're unpleasant but lifesaving. They usually help with the breathlessness within a couple of days, but keep a close eye on your peak flow - I once had to be blue-lighted to A&E when oral steroids didn't help quickly enough. I never found a solution to the aching hunger that the steroids caused, and always struggled with the consequent weight gain. I hope you feel better soon.

reading of 26 !!!! no idea what to do to be honest.. I need the steroids to breath but not happy about that reading :(

Welcome back Ann hope you feeling better soon.

Welcome back Ann. Please get well soon.

Thank you guys . 🙂

Ann, the readings are alarming but try not to worry too much given the unusual circumstances, with the steroids, the infection and lack of exercise - a few high readings won't harm and you will hopefully soon be feeling much better 🙂

Thanks Alan... i am seeing the nurse again on tuesday , so i just have to hang on til then !! It is a bit scary though, I was diagnosed at 22 , i thought that was bad enough !!

I am finding living alone for the first time I have none to moan at anymore !!

Given the upheavals you describe, living alone should be a welcome rest! I have to make do with a trip to the garden shed for peace and quiet.

I agree, living alone has many advantages , I love my own company and being able to do just what I want when I want and not having to explain why !! I think I just feel a bit vulnerable when ill... But , everyone is mortal and dies sometime, so enjoy life while we have it !!
My only disappointment is not having a garden for the first time in my life, I have always loved a garden, but living in East Sussex everywhere is beautiful around here, I can go to a NT place , and pretend, sit on a bench and dream 🙂 ( for as long as I want !!!! )
