Hi guys, sorry not been on for a long time. I was admitted to hospital on the 16th June with a badly infected appendix,:( the surgeon said later that in another 24 to 48 hours I would have died. Whilst in there I had to put up with all sorts of garbage treatment and decisions that were basically, wrong. After being discharged I had to be re-admitted with an acute infection in the cut from the operation.

One thing that happened was that I have been left with a numb left leg which the surgeon said was from the operation and the femural nerve had been trapped and this was common but normally rectifies itself over a period of time. Then along came the "knob consultant. He said that it was nothing to do with the operation but it was DIABETIC NEUROPATHY."😡 This obviously pee'd me off big style as I thought that this only occured after long periods of high blood sugars which I haven't had. I'm seeing my diabetic consultant soon and i'm going to ask him.

The thing is that most of the time I was in I had to fight and argue about things that happened when I knew I was right. it makes me sound like a big gob and trouble maker but i'm anything but.

Sorry for the rant but it's off my chest now!!!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear this Hazey :( Terrible when things don't go well in hospital and can be such a contrast from place to place. I'd certainly be seeking a second opinion about the neuropathy, it's often the first thing to be blamed and no further thought given to it which can be incredibly lazy if you don't fit the likely criteria for it. When I was diagnosed they told me in hospital I'd had a heart attack althought I hadn't felt a thing - they told me diabetics often didn't feel things (even though I'd just been diagnosed!). If they don't know for sure they shouldn't speculate.

I hope that your care improves now you are out of hospital and that your leg recovers soon.

Write and complain. Never heard that removal of the appendix had an effect on the femoral nerves?.

Hope you are on the mend now.

sounds well nasty ...glad you got it sorted x

Well done for having a "rant" on . (i feel better cos u have!) . It sounds like have had a bad deal in hospital. Hope you get sorted with your consultant.

Sorry to hear that you had such a hard time - you must have had mixed feelings - pleased that the problem with the appendix had been picked up and at the same time annoyed that you were being told rubbish.

I would write to the PALs section of the hospital with some suggestions as to how the Patient experience could be improved.

So sorry to hear of the awful time you have had. I had a grumbling appendix which started at the beginning of 2007 and my gp kept admitting me to Medical Admissions Unit with suspected appendicitis and they kept sending me home after the same questions and tests each time saying it was irritable bowel. Eventually things got worse and in March 2008 I had my appendix out - which was very bad and stuck to my bowel! Only thankful my gp kept persevering or I may not be here now.

I really hope you get back to normal soon and that you get the answers you need re the numbness in your leg.

Oh dear, that sounds a horrible experience! Hope you get some answers, it does annoy me when hospitals don't know their a*** from their elbow! Well, just more proof that all we are is another NHS number!!!

Take care and hope you manage to rock someone's boat from the hospital!!!

Thanks for all the replies and support folks and sorry for the delay in getting back as i've been working hard. I have an appointment with my diabetic consultant on the 11th of this month and when he confirms what is what I know is roght the samurai sword will fall and heads will roll. Watch this space!!!!
