Last night I had a really bad lengthy hypo followed by what felt like some kind of fit. I realised I was hypo when bathing my girls so had some lucozade without testing then carried on. Putting them to bed, felt even lower, so had some more lucozade and tucked them in. Went down tested BG ? 2.5. Had some jelly sweets and felt better so went and had a shower after 30 minutes. Came down and felt really unwell so tested again, 2.1. Had some breakfast biscuits and a sugary coffee as couldn?t face anymore full-sugar items. Just afterwards I felt really odd, sounds funny but my eyes looked up at ceiling and were flickering and I couldn?t get them to move down to look at the tv no matter how hard I tried. OH did my BG and it was 4.2 at this point. We were both really scared by it. I have spent all night tossing and turning and sweating and woke up on a 13.7. Has anyone had this happen? Do you think I had some kind of fit due to the lengthy hypo even though by BG had come up? I feel really worried this morning, may call my DSN.

Hi Newbs, I'm sorry you had such a bad night :( I have had hypos where I couldn't get my levels back up, but I've never had an experience where I had a 'fit', that I can remember. I would definitely let your DSN know what happened but try not to worry too much. Is it possible that you may have taken too much insulin by accident yesterday?

Hope you're feeling better this morning *hugs* xx

I have heard of it happening to someone else who was told the 'fit' was a reaction to the hypo and stress as she had been under stress. Do talk to DSN or doctor for reassurance. I hope you feel better.

I bit my hubby once during a hypo where I lost consciousness and was told afterwards that I may have been fitting. It's never happened again though. Id get some advice if I were you.xx

I've had a couple of stubborn lows that took ages to rise, but not to the extent you have described, usually managing to get things back up within an hour or so. Hope your DSN can reassure you - I imagine being relentlessly low like that can confuse the old noggin a bit. How long did the strange experience last? Did you have any other signs that hubby noticed?

The strange experience only lasted 20 seconds or so, felt like forever though. My head still doesn't feel right today but just like those hypo hangovers we get. I hope I never experience anything like it again.

I've spoken to my DSN and she has told me to go home from work and to make an appointment with my gp asap. She also thinks I really need the test for gastroparesis so has told me to tell him she thinks the length of the hypo and not responding to treatment was caused by my stomach not emptying and hopefully he will refer me.

I've managed to get some office cover so can leave work at 1pm and have made an appointment with gp at 4.40 today.

*hugs*

It's not nice, my mum has seen me have a full on fit in my sleep while hypo (in the early days)

And when the hypo is stubborn it's a g!t to sort out

Hope you feel better now

good luck withthe doctor. I'm not a doctor so could be wrong, but wondered if part of it at least was stress induced? I know you were worried about your mum.

It's happened to me a couple of times Newbs. Once my brother found me on the floor of the living room having some kind of spasm and tested my BGs, they were 1.7. The other time I had a funny turn it was as though I couldn't move for a few seconds and felt really weird for a while afterwards. That was another nasty hypo, my record in fact at 1.2. Both of these were days when I just couldn't get my bloods to stay up, no matter what I did. I was down to 2.6 last night but no 'fits', just a horrid hangover today.

The clinic felt it was the pancreas kicking in and producing insulin briefly. It does that from time to time, one of the joys of LADA.

Newbs massive hugs. I really hope that the doctor gets the test done for gastroparesis and that they come up with the right treatment plan for you. Please let us know how you get on at the doctors x

Did you know people with the big D arnt suppose to go in saunas etc. When you had kids in bath was it hot ? Insulin absorbtion does get funny under steamy conditions. Sounds like you have had bad time & really hope you are feeling better. Good luck sorting 🙂

Well, the gp visit was a complete waste of time. Firstly had to tell a student all about it, then my gp came in and she explained it all then he said to the student "ok, give her glucagon to take away with her". That was it. So I said again about the experience I had last night - no response. I then asked about the stomach emptying test that my DSN had said about and he said he didn't know about any such test and that he couldn't see anything that would warrant one anyway as there is no reason at all why the lucozade wouldn't have been absorbed. 😱 I said to him again what my DSN had said and he said he would call her next week to chat about it!

I came out and called my DSN and she is very mad. She said she will go above him and speak to my diabetic consultant direct and see if she can get something done, will phone me sometime next week with an update.

The little faith I had in my gp has now disappeared completely, I felt like he was calling me a liar really. As my DSN said, she isn't called a Diabetes Specialist Nurse for no reason!

Newbs I am so sorry to hear about this but not surprised. If it had been left to my GP's surgery I would never have had the gastroparesis test done. I'm really pleased that you've got the DSN supporting you. Massive hugs xx

Hi Newbs, sorry you have such a dork of a GP and for what you went through.

Obviously I have no idea of the timing of your hypo in relation to your evening meal insulin, so it's just a thought any chance you gave the wrong bolus due to carb miscalculation?

I don't think so, I calculated it all out and injected after the meal.

Dork is a good word! 🙂

It is unbelieveable that they refuse to listen even, isn't it!? Hopefully my DSN will get somewhere next week, the consultant didn't listen to me though but hopefully she'll listen to her.

Obviously I hope that isn't gastroparesis but much of what you've discussed over the past few months suggests to me that it could be. It really is the most difficult thing to get diagnosed and then to get treated but once sorted life is so much easier. Before my treatment started I felt like I was about 70 years old and in retrospect realised that the problems had started four or five years before diagnosis. Once I got the right treatment life was much easier. Please PM me if there is anything I can do to help. Are you still taking the domperidone?

Still taking the domperidone but tend to forget the evening one, must set an alarm or something. I really hope it is not gastroparesis but things are pointing that way unfortunately. Whatever it is, I need some help with it, that's all I know. Last night totally freaked me out. It is good to hear that life does get easier with the right treatment, if you can say that with all you go through it does give me some hope. Thanks for all your support.
