morning all , had another check up at Dr's yesterday and now been put on Atorvastatin 20mg once a day (i tell you what they is a lot to take in with this diabetes & afib stuff my head is spinning) any way I was just wondering if any body else takes this med as the dr i seen told me to take it just before bed and the Pharmacy told me to take it in the morning but the box just says to take one a day I was just wondering when anybody else takes these ?
I usually take mine in the evening , the patient leaflet say it can be taken anytime of day with or without food .
Though hospitals usually dole the out statins for patients at night .
I take mine in the morning, but had them late evening when in hospital when started on them, after 3x Coronary Bypass.
Managed to get GP to agree to drop dose to 20mg after T2D diagnosis, since a fairly common side effect is to raise Blood Glucose.
The more I read about them, the less I like taking them. - Side effects, fat soluble so able to cross Blood/Brain barrier (note that brain is mainly cholesterol), promotes uptake of Phytosterols etc.
If my HDL, LDL, Triglyceride figures and ratios are OK at next blood test I will consider ditching them.
Do you know why your GP started you on the statin? They should only do that if your cholesterol (=lipids) ratios of good to bad cholesterol etc are not good. They shouldn't start them, particularly for females, just because you are diabetic
I have mine at night along with the others, apart from the PPI. I started them after cardiologist advised to take them so nothing to do with my diabetes, my cholesterol is fine.
Do watch out for changes in your ability to remember - I started to lose the car in supermarket car parks, could not remember routes around town, and I could no longer remember my songs - I have had to go through and practice over 300 songs to be able to sing them again without the words in front of me. That was from just over a month of Atorvastatin.
I did the Christmas shopping twice - when I realised I threw the tablets in the bin.

My OH and I are at the same Practice with different GPS and on statins.
Mine told me to take it at night and avoid grapefruit
My husbands told him to take it at any time and no problem eating grapefruit unless in massive quantities.
The patient leaflet seems to support the advice given to my husband.
