Does Atorvastatin adversely affect kidney function? I've been taking Atorvastatin for over a year and I've had a reduction in kidney function recently. I notice that the patient information leaflet states that you should talk with your GP before taking this drug, if you have kidney problems.

I have been on this drug since Feb 2018 & so far all of my blood tests (& I have had lots for other reasons) have shown good kidney function so it may be unrelated but I am not a Doctor.
Your GP should be aware of the restrictions on the drug & if you are having kidney problems & adjust if necessary.
It is probably a good idea to discuss it with him though. one of the biggest lessons I have learnt in the past 2 years is don't ignore anything, the medical profession would rather you troubled them with minor problems than have it develop into something serious!

Many thanks for your reply. I've had a number of tests over the past week to try and explain my reduction in kidney function. Ultrasound kidney scan : clear. Blood test (prostate) : clear. Urine test (for albumin) : clear. Blood pressure : perfect. My GP has changed my medication from Metformin to Linagliptin. Let's see if that makes a difference. I go for another blood test (re kidney function) next week.
