I have lost a stone and dropped a dress size but after the Christmas break I have eaten alot of carbohydrates and want to get back on track. Thank youHi Kaz57, welcome to the forum.
It's great that you've joined in the early stages as it's more than possible to prevent diabetes.
Many people find the low carb approach helpful though it's useful to take a look at your diet and check for any hidden carbs including the drinks you consume.
We've got quite a few threads on prevention/ reversal so do have a look around and let us know if we can help at all.
Reduce your carbs a bit more and try to get a bit more exercise if you can.Hi can you tell me where I can find a thread and advice on how to lower my pre diabetic HbA1c of 42? I did look at that link but it looked complicated and time consuming. I may not have looked properly though!Reduce your carbs a bit more and try to get a bit more exercise if you can.

I reduced by HbA1C from 50 to 42 in 3 months and to 36 in another 6 months following the principals in the link and keeping to 70g carbs per day.
Thanks so much. Good to know things can be reversed. This is really helpful, I’ll health is daunting enough but the side effects of steroids has been a wake up call for me. Ten weeks in and been on 40-60 mg daily has definitely not helped weight but thankful to have them for condition.Wife after period of ill health & steroid use was told she was prediabetic, this also after gaining weight due to those factors.
Told her about work of Prof Taylors Newcastle Diet where pre & type 2 diabetes can be reversed by weight loss, mainly getting rid of visceral fat, so she joined local Slimming World group & went on to lose 5 stone, after that & since all bloods have been normal
Nobody is saying it is easy but without some effort then you may have to be happy with the 42mmol/mol.I did look at that link but it looked complicated and time consuming. I may not have looked properly though!
Thank you, I’ll look at some info about low carb. KLow Carb also works for most people who try it. Reduces Blood Glucose (because all digestible carbs break down into sugars), reduces weight in many cases, reduces water retention which combined with weight loss causes Blood Pressure to normalise etc. Many other good 'side effects'.
Thank you. I am likely to be on steroids for couple years to manage condition. GP recommended checking out Diabetes UK. Thanks for the linkThis link should point you in the right direction with some ideas for a low carb approach to managing blood glucose levels. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
If only 'at risk' then some modest changes to diet may be all that is needed. Steroids do have the reputation for increasing blood glucose.
Thankyou I have the Nutracheck app and log everything I eat each day and that has really helped as I look at the carbs totals. You are quite right Leadinglights I will have another look at the link and put more effort inNobody is saying it is easy but without some effort then you may have to be happy with the 42mmol/mol.
The book or app Carbs and Cals may help you make some better food choises.

In nutracheck press the pie chart (circle) top right, then choose 4 weeks, nutrient = carbs and order = highest. That will give you a list with pictures of everything you’ve eaten from highest to lowest carb count. If you pick lowest then it will sort it from lowest carb to highest carb.Thankyou I have the Nutracheck app and log everything I eat each day and that has really helped as I look at the carbs totals.
