At risk of developing diabetes

I think the biggest problem with my diet, judging by the replies, is probably coffee, and portion size of carbs.

I drink a fair amount of coffee, with 3 sugars, I've already knocked the sugar on the head.

Today I'm having an omellete with 2 eggs and mushroom, maybe Hoy some tuna in

And later on, I'm going to have some fish and veg, Salmon, brocolli, cauliflower.

I'm also from the northeast!

Sounds like you are really tackling this head-on @MackemLad

And I think you are right - 3tsp of sugars is approx 15g of carbs, so you’d only need to be having 3 or 4 a day to be adding a whole extra meal’s worth of carbohydrate for your body to process every day.

As you’ve already noted, it’s important to retain flexibility and not to feel too ‘boxed in’ - this is not so much a temporary short term diet and then a return to normal - it’s more of a long term change to your way of eating. So it needs to be flexible, enjoyable, affordable and to suit your tastebuds and your waistline as well as your blood glucose levels.

With an HbA1c at the lower end of the ‘at risk’ zone, modest changes will go a long way towards helping your metabolism deal with the food you are eating day-to-day.

Let us know how you get on 🙂
