If we get Type 1 because our immune system has attacked our Islets of Langerhans by mistake, doesn’t this imply that we have hyperactive, over-enthusiastic immune systems, and shouldn’t this work in our favour vis a vis COVID 19?

Sadly, no! LOL

Just means our immune system has a flaw, and as such, in all probability the opposite to that. Defo makes us more vulnerable but whether that's a lot more or a bit more is currently anybody's guess.
