Artificial Sweetners

I agree that it feels wise to have as few artificial sweeteners as possible. Though it’s interesting to see how they are making it into all sorts of recipes and not just ‘diet‘ ones these days. Especially with the pesky sugar tax on soft drinks. I am now drinking double-quantities of reduced sugar Lucozade as a hypo treatment (so they can avoid the tax), but they’ve added artificial sweeteners in to get it to taste as sweet as it used to. Madness! 🙄

Welcome to the forum @mack2021 - slightly unusual for a T1 to be on metformin. Have you been diagnosed long? Did you have some signs of insulin resistance?
Hi, sorry I was misinformed , I asked a friend what type I was and she said type 1, but I am type 2, so I have change my settings. I will never use sugar again sweeteners in coffee or nothing and xylitol in tea. I have no added sugar soft drink.

For people wanting to soften the sharpness of rhubarb, cooking it with a few Sweet Cicely leaves, (a herb similar to angelica or fennel) takes the acidic edge off. I grew it in the garden when we also grew rhubarb, and didn’t really need to sweeten the rhubarb at all. It may be a bit hard to find, you need a garden centre with a good herb section. (you can grow it from seed too, and can find seeds on line.)
